There is a few people turning their liquor bottles on there sides for sure. I'm thinking about it.
The Captain said he would update us at 5 our time. I'll let you guys know. We are going into Apia late. We are taking these swells broadside. Wooow. Jeeze. That was big one I kid you not.

Warren, how many cruises have you taken? Never been in rough seas? Oh, and turn those liquor bottles over. It raises a stink in the cabin if you don't, causing more problems for the staff.

Ok we have canceled Apia and turned Southwest. I've taken a few cruises over the years and this is pretty rough. The ship lurches on top of these waves and shudders. Everyone in lobby said OH #$*6 in unison. The vista outside is incredible. I think these swells are 30 ft. Can't go out and photograph them because it's so humid it fogs up the cameras.
I am sure others will confirm.

If you look at those wave sites we are right where the red blob is, 40 ft seas.

Warren, if you get a bit green and don't have much of an appetite, the creme brulee from room service is great for an iffy stomach and it's really quite good!

Karen, thanks maybe drinking isn't a good idea. But now that we have turned Southwest it's eased up a little. The shows for tonight has been canceled. It's like having a Blizzard at home.I'm just sittin here watching the Pres and running up my internet bill. Nothing else to do but watch these angry seas out the window.

I have a few pictures posted on my journal. Leaning over the railing aft of the Voyager Lounge at about 6:00 was pretty exciting. The forward TV camea has had terrific shots of the waves & spray coming over the starboard bow. One of the great places to watch the waves was looking out the Casino windows on Dec 5.
Capt. Dag apologized for the cancellation of the Samoa stop, but we have to keep charging along. I'

I was standing on the 9th level waiting for the one elevator that was working and considering walking down to 4 for compass rose. Also considering getting stuck in said elevator. Bing, it's Captain Dag. If we are going to get stuck in between floors It's best to be with the Captain of the Ship. Then you know they will fetch you in a hurry.
It's been an amazing day. This is nothing for this crew, it can get a lot worse. But I wouldn't give up this experience for anything. The force of Mother Nature is awesome.

Wow Larry, awesome shots of the "angry seas" I was in the Carribean when the Storm of the Century struck and we had 20' plus seas. As we sang then: "We're-a-rockin-and-a-rollin". Good thing Ray wasn't there or he would be singing: "I'm-a-dying-I'm-a-dying".
I'm green with envy...lucky you having the Platters on board...now thats music to dance to with your sweetie!!!

Larry, I love reading your blog and seeing your pictures. Also happy to hear the Platters were so good. I hope you, Warren, Peggy and all stay safe. It reminds me of when we had "The Bass Strait Perfect Storm" with 60 ft. waves on the 2005 WC. I'm sure Elaine & Peggy remember it well. I still laugh when I think of Olivia sleeping through it.

Marcie,
The Bass Strait storm was something else! I remember our refrigerator flying across the cabin (penthouse suite), the desk chair falling over and the grand piano in one of the lounges flipping over. Several hours after the captain changed direction and headed to Sydney instead of Melbourne the weather cleared and we got that extra wonderful day in Sydney. The certificate that we got did contain some incorrect information that I tried getting fixed at the time but nobody seemed to care. 96 knots is actually 110 mph (not 150) and 20 meters is actually 66 feet.
I understand that Dr. Lloyd Tinkle (who will be celebrating his 100th birthday next month on the world cruise) fell at lunch during the storm yesterday and required 6 stitches. I am told that he is back on his feet and doing fine.

Mike, We saw Lloyd in San Diego...he looked exactly the same. God Love Him...100 years old! I wonder if he'll be in the talent show again with his harem.
Hope we don't have any rough seas on SoAm trip next year!

Marcie, I remember that Bass Strait storm very well. The best part of it was if you were fortunate enough to have been sharing the bed with someone, you had to hold on to each other so you wouldn't fall out of bed. See, there is some good in everything IMO.I also heard that Dr. Tinkle had to have some stitches but is fine. It seems also that he doesn't want to have a big celebration for his birthday. He is really someone special. Elaine

Capt. Dag confirmed this a.m. that yesterday the gale winds were 60 mph (just a modest autumn wind in Norway!) and that seas were 30 feet. Thankfully today it's sunny with just a mild roll as the winds are in the 35-40 km/h from the port side. Everyone seems to be much better today...I haven't seen Lloyd so can't provide an update. We are headed to Fiji and should make scheduled arrival time on Sunday. We cross the international dateline tomorrow....we are currently 171+ degrees west, south of Samoa.

Lloyd is fine - he was in LV for lunch and his chair tipped over - I have to tell you, it was treacherous up there. I have pretty good balance and was in LV for about 5 minutes and was not a happy camper.
This was not as "exciting" as Bass Strait but it lasted all day which made it more hazardous.
Elaine and I have been though some pretty bad situations in the past - the RV Sun "airborne" in the South China Sea and the same ship hitting a reef off Sharm el Sheik in Egypt.
Each trip is different . . .

The storm we went through has a name: Tropical Cyclone Nisha
Now not even cat 1. Calm seas with a full moon tonight slowly headed into Figi. Those tropical cumulus clouds with some rain showers look pretty off in the distance.

Warren - you're a hoot! Can't wait till you can post some photos so we can put a face with the name and that great sense of humor!
Anybody know how many full World Cruisers are on board? (I looked back but didn't see it anywhere). This is such a dream of ours! We'll be doing it someday, just not sure how soon...

Yes, Warren, just find some of the lct people aboard, and they will take your picture for us and even post it if you are stuck in the library figuring out what time it is with your sextant! We do love hearing from you, and it seems so far you are a happy camper who goes with the flow, a glass half full sort of person.

I'm following about 10 WC blogs right now....a WC junkie!
