I keep reading how the Avian Flu issue might be out of control in Turkey. Since my partner and I are traveling there in a few months, I'm beginning to worry about the "what-ifs".
BTW, I've crossposted this in the Oceania forum as well, so please forgive me posting here as well if you feel its off topic. Just thought its food for thought for both forums if anyone is traveling to Turkey in the near future...
Cheers,
Eric

Though not traveling there was thinking about the flu. Any of our member Dr's care to chime in? Ya know a little free medical advice/commentary? LOL!

Yes, I would worry, but then we should all be worried. So far the strain of flu has not "gone pandemic", so for now, as long as you're not around poultry or live birds, you're probably okay in Turkey, especially if you're in a city. When it does mutate, then all bets are off, let's just hope it does not do this, ever.

FWIW, this is what the CDC is saying: http://www.cdc.gov/travel/other/avian_flu_ah5n1_010606_turkey.htm To summarize, they are not making any recommendations that travelers avoid going to countries such as Turkey that have documented cases of avian flu. But they do have some sensible precautions (like avoiding poultry farms) to be followed while you're there. :) (in essence, this is what Wendy is saying so you didn't need a doctor after all!) Masaki

Another reason to avouid poultry farms is the horrible smell!!
Thanks Wendy and Masaki for your input.
