We're thinking of booking the Voyager Los Angeles to Auckland next Jan. and thinking of staying a few days in Auckland, has anyone got any suggestions where we should stay?? So far Radisson doesn't have much in the way of post cruise stays. Would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Sandy cheer

We did the LA to Sydney segment this past Jan. and finally got to Auckland at the end of our land journey...We stayed at the Hilton in Auckland for 3 nights--mixed feelings about the place. Location is right on the water--literally. You will feel like you are back on the ship--the hotel is out on the pier and the balconies hang out over the water. Great views of ferries and freighters coming and going. However, if you are unlucky and a ship is docked right in front of your room, you will see nothing! And it is a pricey hotel, rooms are nothing special. If I had known, we would have booked a B and B in Devonport, a much nicer area just a 10 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. Look at tripadvisor.com for specific suggestions for other Auckland hotels.
One of the highlights of our trip was our stay on Waiheke Island, a 35 minute trip by ferry from Auckland. We stayed at the Giverny B and B--a most luxurious and relaxing place with outstanding breakfasts, fabulous views. Try to get over to Waiheke if you can.

Wish I could do the trip all over again!

IF you could swing it, the Huka Lodge was spectacular!! We had to take a short plane ride from Aukland to get there, but it worth every second!!

When Ken and I stay in Auckland we stay at the Stanford Park Hotel. It is right in the heart of Auckland about 5 minutes walk from the waterfront. A nice classy hotel with nice rooms nothing super swanky but very comfortable. President Clinton stayed there and they have the best club sandwich called "the Clinton". Ken and I always have one of those when we arrive at the hotel.

I do recommend spending some time in Auckland it is a beautiful city. If you can go down to Huka Lodge you will see some beautiful country side and this is a truly world class facility everyone loves it. Not cheap but worth it - I have never stayed there myself but it is certainly on my "must do list".

Oh it is absolutely fabulous...we went out on the lake one day and caught some trout to bring back, and they prepared sashimi as appetizers for the whole lodge and then smoked trout for our group for dinner. It is a stunning piece of property too. You can request to eat in the wine cellar, or out by the river, or in the trophy room by the fireplace...I'd LOVE to go back!

Thanks for all the info on New Zealand, the lodge sounds great, I checked out their web-site, looks like it is a little more than I want to spend, as much as I could tell, it was about $500.00 per person , per night,.....still haven't really decited if we are going to go on this cruise, there are about 10- days at sea, the first 6 are sea days, we both like sea days, but not sure if we want that many.... confused confused
