If I understand correctly, it will be half of Portofino's.

Lorraine told us last week that they are doing a major renovation of the current Portofino. That inclues moving the galley, putting in a Prime 7 and a La Veranda, just like the other two ships.

I think Navigator departs Nov. 08,2009.

I really liked the Portofino set up on my recent crossing. If that goes, I will miss it

I didn't really love Portofino - I found the decor dated and the one evening we ate there, because they only use half the dining room, it seemed crowded. I love la Veranda and hopefully the new one on Navigator will look like the other two - bright and airy! Prime 7 certainly sounds great and Navigator could do with another dining option. Hopefully they will serve dinner in the new la Veranda as well as in Prime 7.

I am one of those who enjoyed the old Portofino's with Jerry, Roberto, Vincenzo and the waiters singing and dancing. It was a fun evening while having dinner.

Prime 7 will be an welcomed addition to the Navigator, though. It will be interesting to see how La Veranda will mix in with Prime 7. I doubt both restaurants will be open for dinner.

Will the Prime 7 half be open for breakfast and lunch?

As I understand it (and things change) but I was told Prime 7 will be a section of Portofinos but certainly not half. They will take that very small area that is kind of on its own in the most forward section on the starboard side and build a new wall making these two totally separate rooms. For those who know this is where we played pooch on the CPT to RIO cruise.

Then there is some space behind that forward wall that is used for other purposes that the passengers do not see now, this extra area will be incorporated into Prime 7.

The door to Prime 7 will be probably somewhere in that long hallway leading to Portofinos.

So each restaurant will be totally separated and Prime 7 will not be open except in the evening for dinner just as it is on the Voyager and Mariner.

I was told they have the room for the restaurant that is not a problem. The challenge is the kitchen area. It is very small in Portofino and Prime 7 requires a totally different kitchen than they use for Portofinos. This is where they are having to squeeze out the space but I am sure they have that all worked out now.

Thanks Ngaire. I was just wondering how this will impact breakfast and lunch time at Portofino (due to the reduced number of tables).

I'm confused. confused I thought Portofino was being replaced by Prime 7 and La Veranda. Have plans changed?

David, Prime 7 on the Navigator will be a portion of the old Portofino's. It will be interesting to see the actual size of Prime 7.

Portofinos is what it is now the NAME CHANGE to La Verandah is probably happening to be consistent with the rest of the fleet. I am sure they will refurbish this area but they are all the same type of venue. Buffet breakfast/lunch and sit down casual dining at night.

Prime 7 is only taking a SMALL portion of Portofino's/La Verandah. It is about four or six tables is all that is going into Prime 7. The majority of the new Prime 7 restaurant will be in this area that you cannot see now behind the forward wall of Portofinos/La Verandah. So the inpact on Portofino/La Verandah will be negligible. Very few people sat in that back area.

I am glad to see the changes coming, and I loved Prime 7 on Voyager. With Silver Spirit and Seabourn Odyssey in this size range and more dining options (albeit SS chose not to make the Japanese included), it was wise of Regent to expand with this wonderful restaurant that most will love.
