On my next cruise I need music. My music. I wonder how you would go about putting radio shows that come off satellite radio on my laptop. We all burn cd's and put them on, but how would you record programs off Sirius?

Off your question since I have no idea of the answer..but don't they have VCR/CD players in the cabins? I can't recall.

There are a lot of good concerts on satellite radio. I was thinking you could use a laptop like an audio tivo. Record it here and enjoy it on your balcony. Every cruise ship I have ever been on doesn't really have a lot of music that I like. I wore out the Linda Ronstadt Greatest Hits CD that the libary had on my last cruise.

Chip, I am far from a techie, but my daughter has satellite radio that I gave her for Christmas last year, and I have forwarded your question to her. She probably will have no idea, however, how to do other than turn it on in the car, and as an aside, figure out how to keep charging the original subscription to my credit card.

Thanks there has got to be a way. Sure would like to listen to that Cream Concert that Claudia is talking about, they are starting to rebroadcast things like that on Sirius.

There is nothing like good music on a moonlit night in the middle of the ocean.

Chip,

I know XM has a portable radio that's available and Sirius just announced they will have a walkman style radio anytime now. I have Sirius in my car and it's so totally incredible. I can't wait for the walkman version to take with me on a walk.
Olivia,
They also have a special that you can buy lifetime subscription for $500 as long as you own your radio and you can transfer to a new unit 3 times during your lifetime as well.

You can only get both satellite services in the US. The signal gets a little iffy when you get close to the Mexican boarder in my part of the world. I have heard ( I think on this board ) that they turn the signal off when the satellites arn't over North America. Too bad that don't go for world wide service.

chip - you might want to take a look at this software:

I wish we could get satellite radio in Hawaii (sigh)

That's it Masaki, thank you. I don't know about XM but Sirius streams all their programing free to their customers. They might have a deal for people in HI.

Chip: Here is Jes's response:

There are two options for this guy to be able to listen to sirius on the boat.

1. Buy a personal receiver unit. I dont know if Sirius has them, but XM does. They are basically like Sony Walkman radios, but they receive XM signal instead of FM. He could even buy little speakers to use. Now, since this is satellite radio, close to the US it should work. But he'd want to check with XM or Sirius. It'd be cool if this could work, cause then he could listen to live Satellite programming instead of recorded. Here are some links:
this is the XM unit he would want to buy

the marine issue......
http://www.xmradio.com/faq/faq_list...;section_main=XM%20Satellite%20Radio#144
my suggestion is he he should call XM and sirius both and pose the issue to them.

2. Investigate this thing called TimeTrax. It allows for digital audio recording of sirius onto your computer. It only works with certain Sirius radio's, tho, so he may have to buy a lot of new equipment. It looks sort of complicated.

I have an Sirius boombox, which has outputs like anything else. On Party I don't think you would get the signal as the ship went south. But Masaki reminded me you might be able to stream it if the conection is fast enough. I was able to use streaming audio on a Crystal ship once. Or maybe I could record on a DVD instead of a CD, I hate packing 30 CD's. I bet a DVD would hold a lot of music.

I am going to down load that TimeTrax software tonight, the free version and give that a try.

Thanks Olivia

Chip, why don't you check on Sirius podcasts. Here is a link:

http://www.sirius.com/servlet/Conte...&c=FlexContent&cid=1119299223942

If you follow the link to www.odeo.com you can see what podcasts are currently available.

You can download a bunch of podcasts to an ipod or other mp3 player and playback at your leisure.
