I just saw the following message on the CC Oceania board:

"Just off the Insignia.
No more art auctions.
We were told not enough people were buying and the contract was cancelled.
Let's hope they keep it that way."

Are art auctions on Regent ships also on the chopping block?

Dave, I can't answer your question as I never see the art auctions to begin with when I am on the ship. I don't think there was one on MOOSE but you never know!

When I was on the Mariner in Asia in October they were still there.

The auctions are still on Regent ships for a while.
I was told by can't remember who...but he/she was a good source...trust me. (ok, I remember who, but my lips are sealed.)
Regent tried to end the Park West contract due to some bad publicity that Park West had received. (do a google. You'll get all the detail you need & more!)
But the lawyers (or so I am told) demanded that the contract be honored.
Ergo, the auctions will continue on Regent until the contract runs out. After that date, the Park West auctions will cease.
I do not know if another company will pick up the flag.

I must say that I do enjoy seeing the various works displayed around the ship. Of course, I doubt that I would ever buy one onboard. But looking is free.

On Dragon, I happened by the auction. One couple chatting with the auctioneer..I assume that they were dealing over price. No other bidders were seen.

Of course, I kept seeing those "sold" tags being put on various works during the voyage, so maybe stuff got sold. Or they had a couple of extra "sold" tags. I don't know.

Thanks for the information, Doug. I wonder how much longer Regent's contract with Park West runs? Based upon your report, I'd guess that Oceania didn't cancel their contract with Park West but declined to renew it.
