Hi Karen,
We got the email a few days after you. Going to Brisbane made me wonder,so checked the itinerary and then the penny dropped. She has a drydock in Brisbane. The dock there is picking up a lot new work with more ships visiting this area.I think Statendam and Sun Princess have also had drydocks in Brisbane.
Great itinerary.Noumea is a great place to visit, very Fench like Tahiti. The Yasawa's in Fiji are a dream and Aitutaki, Cook Islands is way different from Rarotonga. Vava'u, Tonga ? Well at least you can say you have been there.
My only reservation on this cruise would be how does the PG handle the big Ocean swells?
Remember our day at Rarotonga??
I have added it to the maybe list.

We did what I think was a very similar itinerary 2 years ago. Sailed out of Brisbane, 3 weeks including the Tahitian Islands. The ship did great, a few rocky days but nothing awful....It was a great trip, we loved Tonga......(well only for 8 hours). Not much there...lovely people though. I would do that trip again in a minute, just too many other places on our list.....

I don't mind a little bit of "rock n roll"
in fact on an ocean voyage I would expect it .
I like to feel the motion of the ocean.
What would disappoint would be arriving at a tender call and not being able to go ashore or even missing the port entirely.
Thats why I like Tahiti. The ships can anchor inside protected reefs.....in calm waters.

I've wanted to visit Tonga since I first heard the old Flanders and Swann song:

Oh, it's hard to say:
'Hoolima Kittiluca Cheecheechee'
But in Tonga that means:
No
If I ever have the money
Is to Tonga I shall go
For each lovely Tongan maiden there
Will gladly make a date
And by the time she's said
'Hoolima Kittiluca Cheecheechee'
It is usually too late!

We had a look at the itinerary, and think it's great with one possible fact putting us off. Isn't that the height of hurricane season(Nov-Apr), and that can be a very active area. Being that I live in an active hurricane area, I do not want to experience them on vacation  . I am sure that the PG will skirt any storms, but what are your opinions. It is a small ship!!

Yes!
Even though you may go around and miss a hurricane the ocean swells can be affected for many hundreds of miles in the open sea.

We also received the Email. It looks like the return trip to Papeete has a typo in the date; it should be February 5, 2009.

I thought it sounded too good to be true! At least your comments (and Ngaire's) helped me make a decision before I got too excited. I can still remember my first 'cruise' to New Zealand and it's not one I want to repeat! In fact, it took me forty odd years to get on another ship and I haven't got enough time left to wait that long again!! Pity! Lee
