When the site says "The Paul Gauguin may be sold" do they mean that it has been sold out from under the promoter, or sold out BY the promoter? Apparently the former, as that site's link to "cruise ships for sale" shows the PG as "sold".
The fate of the PG gets foggier all the time. Last I heard, her transfer to Grand Circle Travel (GCT) had been delayed till 01/07. A month ago I received a mailing from GCT (don't know how they got my name) asking where I wanted the PG to go. Options included "around the horn" in S. America, and Antarctica, and several other places where the 15 foot draft PG has no business going! Made me wonder if these guys at GCT knew what they were doing in buying this ship. And then, there is the somewhat criptic comment by the Minister of Tourism of French Polynesia following the negotiations to keep the PG in FP till the end of '06, wherein he said that he couldn't imagine the ship sailing anywhere else, and "hoped" to find a way to keep the PG in FP longer.
Interesting report, Phil. I hope all on this board will post anything they hear about the PG (credible or not) to help those of us who care unravel the mystery.
Thanks,
Richard
