Is having an Amex Platinum still supposed to gain you early embarkation on RSSC?

When we were waiting to board Navigator in January, they sent us to wait in rows of "chairs". Then, when they got ready to board us, they sent us by row; while it didn't take all that long, it was cattle call. The same thing happened when we got on Mariner in 2004, and that one was nearly chaos.

The brochures we get in the mail still mention the early embarkation, is that stale and not true now?

Pam,

My daughter and I just were on the Mariner March 13th. We did not get special embarkation with AmEx Platinum. I did mention this to someone at the reception desk and it was supposed to be offered. So.....I am not sure if this will be corrected for future cruises.
Cheers, Pam
PS I am in the process of writing a letter to Marc Conroy regarding our cruise- both the positives and negatives.

Pam & Pam, it still says special embarkation on the Amex Platinum Website under cruise privileges for RSSC. I think the ease of embarkation may vary with the port. Last summer in Reykjavik, we just walked onto the ship at around 12:30--they were ready with the key and a glass of champagne. We were smart though and took a taxi from the pre-cruise hotel, rather than the bus transfer, and therefore we beat everyone there.

When we sailed on Voyager out of Ft. Lauderdale in 2003, the Amex Platimum embarkation was definitely present and commented on as we got on the ship.

When we sailed Mariner out of San Pedro, it had been announced that Platinum card holders could board at 10:30 am; somebody forgot to tell the people that needed to know. It was chaos, people were fighting over the supplied wheelchairs, and boarding was a complete cattle call. We didn't say anything, we sat back and people-watched.

Port Everglades is huge, our cab driver didn't have a clue how to get to the ship, and once we got there we were busy talking to Suzie and Marilyn so just went with the flow. I don't think any of us even mentioned the Amex thing, but the guy who was herding us didn't seem to be interested in anything except keeping us where he told us to be.

Our next embarkation is in Copenhagen, so I fully plan to explore what's what before we get there.

Pam,

When we boarded the Navigator last in (NYC 2004) there was a special line for AMEX. I recall seeing it for every cruise, except the PG last year. Sometimes the lines were faster that weren't the AMEX lines.

I do not think Plat. gives you early embarkation (like you pay extra for on Silversea).

A separate line, yes.

Editing to say, like Kathy, I have moved from the Amex line as it was longer to the general line. I will also say when not paying with Plat. I have experienced if their line is shorter, they motion you over.

Whatever...

When AMX first came out with the new program that AMEX line was very visible. As Suzanne said it was not always shorter. It is my guess that it simply did not work that well and therefore they are not really doing it anymore. HOWEVER, since the program says it is there it probably should be there. I really dont know what the situation is this is just my guess. I will ask about that and see what I can find out.
