I realize as I'm watching the excursions for the Discovery Collection that, since RSSC started allowing on-line booking of excursions, I've only done Caribbean or PG cruises, where RSSC ships are frequently present and thus have the excursions pretty much nailed down.

So, I'm wondering if what I'm seeing now is common. The excursions for segment 2 (which is our first segment) were supposed to be available for booking as of June 10. Well, they've been posting the prices for the excursions at a pace of one port every 2 days. And, when they do finally post the pricing, most of the excursions previously listed have disapeared. In fact, in two of the three ports posted, only one excursion remains. They do have a note that says check back later--they may add more (and also says that prices are subject to change).

I'm wondering if they're having trouble negotiating the tours with the local guides? Given fuel prices and exchange rate issues, I can imagine it's a problem. I have to say, the pricing on the ones they've posted, while higher than in the past, are not so much higher as to set one's hair aflame. So I'm thinking they're really making an effort to hold down prices.

But maybe this is just the way it's usually done for those cruises where they aren't in that port several times a year.

And, oh yes, the booking form is not operational yet. I'm assuming that won't come until they've finished posting all the ports.
