 What to do in Rarotonga?

If we don't do any excursions in Rarontonga, what should we do? Can we just take a shuttle into town (?) and just walk around?

Deleted my post. Mistook Raratonga for Rangiroa. Not been to Raratonga but it is a favorite holiday spot for New Zealanders. Supposed to be beautiful.

Dec 2004 Islands magazine has an article on Rarotonga - "Pacific Perfection". don't know that it will answer excursion questions, but could wet your appetite! (I love this mag!)

Rarotonga is a cute little town. We just returned from several weeks in the S. Pacific and stopped here. There are lots of souvenir stores, and if you are interested in black pearls, they are quite a bit cheaper than in Papeete. However, I understand you have to choose carefully as quality can be iffy. We only spent a few hours so can't comment re excursions, but there is a tourist office on the main street who could probably advise you.
