I'm looking to get an International Travel Clock (LCD/digital screen) that can be read during the night. Do they automatically adjust to various time zones all by themself? The lighter and sleeker, the better.
Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Let's see if I can make this link work, Marcie. If not, go to Travelsmith.com they have more than one version. clock

In many places in the world you still need to adjust the clock manually. Here is the note from the Travelsmith website:
As there are only 4 "Atomic Clocks" in the World, when traveling outside the U.S., United Kingdom, Western Europe and Japan clock will need to be updated manually, as shown in instruction manual.

Marcie, did you check out all the atomic clocks at Ebay? They have quite the variety :hyper: Here's a nice Brookstone model for $22 buy it now auction. They also have an $8 Brookstone model as well. The most accurate atomic time—anywhere in the world.
From Boston to Beijing, our Global Atomic Clock automatically synchronizes to international radio signals around the world to give you the most accurate atomic time available. Three interchangeable antennae allow you to receive radio signals from national atomic clocks stationed around the world. Clock updates itself when you change countries and time zones. Displays time, month, day, date and indoor temperature (°F or °C) in your choice of English, German, French, Italian, or Spanish. The clock’s settings may be locked to prevent accidental changes during travel. Backlight illuminates for easy viewing in dark environments

The one that's ending in less than an hour has counterparts further down the page for a lot more money (is LaCrosse a brand of fountain pens?).
I see a Sharp one closing in something over a day; that's a good brand.

Marcie, I am pretty sure that it has an alarm but not postive. The Ebay $8 Brookstone which you can see here at the Brookstone store for $25 does have an alarm for sure. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.brookstone.com/bs_assets/images/shop/large_300/218917_p.jpg)

The one pictured above is the one I use & I think Ngaire uses this one also. Also Margo? Some time - long, long ago - this topic was discussed on this board, not CC. I will see if I can find it. BTW - I bought mine in the Atlanta airport. Can you believe - it was cheaper there than at the store, on line or on the Bay when I was looking.
Marcie Can't find the post. It had to be in February because I remember looking at the Houston airport the first week in March after it being discussed on the board. This has to be reset manually, but it does have an alarm & a snooze alarm. Fits nicely on RSSC's night tables & it was a life saver in Egypt when we were having to get up some mornings at 4AM to catch some early flight. Those early flights might be on the ROAR trip also.

Betty...that's the clock we travel with, it's great, but it isn't an atomic time clock.
Otherwise, it's great for travel - you just need to change it when the Captain tells you that you've floated into a new time zone!

This is the one on ebay right now....I wonder if the atomic clock actually works when you're at sea??? Anyone know? (I guess when we're in FP, Australia, New Zealand we just set it ourselves since the areas aren't mentioned...??)Maybe as Margo mentioned, it's just easier for us to get one we set ourselves and don't worry about this Atomic kind....? Our new international atomic clock features Global Sync technology — when you're overseas it will receive signals from atomic clocks in Rugby, England; Frankfurt, Germany; or Kyushu Island, Japan. Virtually all "atomic" clocks sold in America set themselves only to signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Colorado, so their range has been limited to the "lower 48" states. But now you can enjoy ultra-accurate radio-controlled time in the continental U.S. as well as in Great Britain, most of Western Europe (and some Central Europe), in Japan and parts of Korea. Like our U.S. Atomic Clock, these international atomic clocks also measure one second of time as 9,192,631,770 vibrations of a cesium-133 atom in a vacuum; they are accurate to within one second every million years. This unique travel snooze-alarm clock has an easy-to-read backlit LCD with dual digital 12/24-time display; month, date and day. Outside the radio-controlled areas, it can be set manually. Measures 2" x 3/4" x 4" and weighs 8 oz. Runs on two CR2450 button cell batteries (included).

Marcie,
I think you might be on the right track re: reliability. We've had an "atomic" clock in kitchen which lost time, etc. This week, DH purchased several differnt ones to solve the problem, but none has proved totally accurate. May be something in this house, phone frequency, metal, or ??? When you set it yourself, you'll know it's right!!

You all have convinced me...no atomic clock! I like the look of the little Brookstone one that Ngaire and Betty have. I like big numbers but small and convenient to pack. I have a quirk about needing to know what time it is if I wake up in the middle of the night...so one that lights up is a must! Thanks guys!!

You just hit the top and the light comes on. It is also nice because it gives you the temperate in C or F.
