I am starting to pack for our Mariner 3/26 Panama Canal trip and I have a few questions hopefully some of you have the answers. On Casual nights does kmy husband have to wear a sports coat? Also I know that this has been covered before but what is the difference in informal & casual? Thanks Penny

Hi Penny - Todd from Sherman Oaks here. On casual nights, Khakis and a pressed long or short sleeved shirt or polo shirt is just fine. Informal is jacket or suit.

We are off Woodcliff on the way to Mulholland drive, East of the 405 and Sepulveda. We used to live near Van Nuys and Magnolia accross from the Sherman Oaks Van Nuys park (about 2 years ago).

Penny, The men wear lots of short sleeve silk shirts on casual night, too. I don't think I saw too many suits on informal night. To answer your question, casual is no jacket or tie and informal is a jacket, tie optional.

Penny; You will find a lot of variation in dress on casual nights. A nice sport shirt and slacks is the norm, but you will find a lot of men wearing sport coats simply because it can get a bit chilly in spots on the ship. The Mariner is OK, but I highly recommend a sport coat on Voyager unless they've corrected the A/C balance. On informal nights a sport coat with or without tie is the norm. You'll probably want a light wrap for yourself in the evening. Lynn always takes one and usually wears it, but her body fat is only 12%.

Penny:
Tom usually wore a sportcoat on casual nights - but he brought several and was happy to have some variety. He wore silk mock turtleneck knit tops - no tie! He never minds wearing a jacket - but he hates that tie!

How is the AC on the Diamond? For a European summer cruise will the public rooms be too cool for just short sleeves in the evening?

I always carried a sweater with me to dinner, but I don't think I ever put it on - maybe around my shoulders if in sleeveless dress.
