Why dont all of you who want the PG in 2005 discuss your options for dates here to see if we can come close on a consensus or at least narrow it down to a basic time frame and then take it the next step from there.
Assuming prices the same as 2004.
January - March - Summer in Tahiti sale.
April - May - before school is out.
June - August - school is out
Sept - October
October - December.
Marquesas - remember this will be more expensive and NO Free Air for sure. Probably in November.

Are there a lot of kids on the PG in the summer? If there are, I'd vote for May. If there aren't, any time other than January - March works for me.

May is fine for me...I'd rather not do it when the kids are out...no offense to anyone's kids!

I vote for the week of April 23-April 30, 2005. (Tom has taken me on cruises and vacations all over the world for my birthday....we've never done anything special for his birthday April 28)

I like it when it's free air too! Don't they sometimes extend that into April and May???

Count me in on a 2005 cruise...if they don't throw me over board this September! Like Todd, I like the idea of airfare included. BTW, what is the difference in the "summer Season" there...is it just rainy? I would expect the temperature to remain fairly constant.... Just can't get enough of Radisson.

How hot is hot? over 100 degrees? if so the only draw back would be the loss of the chill on my cosmo......the thought of using a beer insulator for my beverage......never..its so Carnival....gee, is it OK to use the C word (carnival) on the board?

I was there in March 98...it was HOT then also...not over 100 ever...but very humid...I would get out of the shower, try to dry my hair, and it never felt quite dry...BUT that was in Papeete...on the ship there were breezes on deck and the interior of the ship was comfortable.

I'd say mid to upper 80's and humidity. You get accustomed to it....but when you first get off that airplane in Papeete Airport - WOW!

Oh Yeah, Todd, WOW is right. I wore a jumpsuit the time I went, and by the time we were done clearing customs etc I was ROASTING...that is a good tip for anyone going....be prepared, as far as what you are wearing, for the intense warmth and humidity when you get off the plane!

For what it's worth (not much) I'm leaning towards a 3 night pre-cruise at the Moorea Beachcomber Inter-Continental. This is what we were going to do for our January '04 anniversary cruise before we scraped those plans and went on DDD instead.
Tom Cruise really comes out of his shell on his birthday!  Suzanne, He will want to do Polynesian pole dancing with you! :D
Hope this April 23-30 date will work.

Actually late April to late May are really prime times to go. The "rainy" season (which really means most of the time just higher humidity)is over. It is before school is out. That is what I would suggest really or the Sept October time frame as well. Prior to the "humid" season and after school is back in session. Seems like April to May may be the area to focus on for this group. Ken and I will be able to go then too.

OH...well, Ngaire, we can't go without you and Ken...sooooo...let's shoot for that time period...maybe I should do a thread entitled "PG - May-April, 2005"? Then do a roll call.

For those that want b2b, should we plan on getting the ship warmed up the week before or stay on for a week of relaxation after all the crazies get off?

Now Marc that is an interesting question.
If the dates did not matter to you I think I would go early because it might be a let down the second week otherwise. The week before you can be "looking forward" to everyones arrival(a positive) but the week after you will be "missing everyone" (a negative). I wont be doing the pre-cruise I will just come in for the seven day trip.
Marcie good thought about Mothers day many may not want to miss that.

Are there any good golf courses in FP? Marcie, PGA is a great abbreviation for the PG cruise because Tom likes golf!

We had two guys play the course instead of doing the Paul Gauguin tour. They rented a car and said it took them about 40 minutes one way to get to it. Said the course was just ok. They were surprised that it was not terrbily expensive for rentals, cart etc. there is a web site telling you more about it.

Not heard good things about the course. You actually pass it on the tour they offer the Saturday you get off the PG. This is the ONLY course in the Tahiti Islands that I am aware of at this time. Surprising really I guess that just points out how it is still an unspoiled paradise. I wonder how many there will be 20 years from now.

Will May be more expensive than March? If so, I opt for March. The weather was always great. Hot, but wonderful...not too hot to have a terrific time. I'd love to save money and stay longer.

Of course Masaki, the more the merrier. I have found that travelling with this group of people truly enhances the whole experience. The flights from Hawaii are not very co-operative with the PG perhaps by then there will be a schedule change.
Andi - January - March has always had an additional savings due to the "Summer in Tahiti sale". There is a big difference in the humidity factor during those months as well. It wont be significantly higher in May.

I only mentioned PGA (Paul Gaugain April) as a catchy name....not that Tom (Cruise, Mr. Petlover) wants to play golf in Tahiti... (although maybe there are others who might). Just want to clarify that.

Karen:
But the odd noses & ears in Trek are ok? (budgets are different. Can't afford puppets? Make the nose look strange. BINGO! New alien person who somehow still speaks very good english! -smile-)
Since I sell books of both series, I love them both!
Doug... who still thinks that DS9 was the best Trek series yet!
