We are getting closer and clocer to our 10/1/05 sailing :ch: and I am beginning to wonder: how informal is informal?
Being a Southern Californian, I tend to have an abundance of flip-flop sandals (thanks to my children I can't call them thongs anymore...) I have VERY nice versions of them, glittered with Swarvoski crystal and the like. Are more 'traditional' shoes required (or advised?)for dinner on the ship?
For land excursions, are athletic shoes or TEVA type sandals more common?
Thank you to everyone here. These boards are so wonderful and everyone is so helpful. Babs

I took a pair of waterproof Birkenstock sandals and a pair of real shoes - never wore the real shoes. The sandals were fine at all times, on the beach, walking around the islands and eating at dinner. I dressed up by wearing them with socks!

Hi Babs, do you mean shoes like these? If so, that's the norm for footwear on the PG. I tended to wear a little bit a small heal because I am short. I don't think I took one pair of panty hose :app: For shore excursions, I would wear sneakers for land based excursions. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.zappos.com/images/133/7165133/985-142558-p.jpg)

Tevas are great for the motu. I intend to take two pair this November because last year when we were there I found myself putting on damp Tevas occasionally.

I found that my reef shoes were indispensible.

Kathy, I always take three pair of shoes with me on the Paul Gauguin. One pair of sandals that I can wear with anything, water shoes, and tennis shoes. I agree with Kathy. I couldn't have lived without my "water shoes." You can buy them inexpensively at Target or Walmart and you could wear them in the water to protect your feet from the broken shells and spiny fish. Of course, they really don't provide enough support for much walking so a comfortable walking shoe or tennis shoe is a must in my book.

Fletcher, be as casual and comfortable as possible. PG is very easy going.

Waterproof Birkenstocks? I have a few Birk's but none that are waterproof! I'd better go shop a bit.
Thank you for all the replies! Babs
