I've never heard of the Luxury Institute, but maybe that's because I don't have enough money for them to pay attention to me. Call me cynical, but Celebrity?
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2006--According to the new Cruise Lines Luxury Customer Experience Index survey (LCEI), from the New York-based Luxury Institute, Radisson Seven Seas (recently renamed Regent Seven Seas to match its sister luxury hotel brand), was rated best in delivering customer experience by its wealthy customers. Disney Cruise Lines and Celebrity Cruises rated second and third, respectively.
"The voice of its own wealthy consumers validates the recent move to change the name from Radisson, a mainstream brand, to Regent, a luxury brand," said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. "This was a rare brand whose experience far exceeded its legacy name.

I believe there are many truly wealthy people who cruise on Regent. Presumably they are the bread and butter of the line. I am not one of them, and I suspect most of the people who post to these boards are not really wealthy either. But obviously we are doing rather well, or we would not be able to afford these cruises.

If we were wealthy before the cruise, we certainly are not after the cruise.

Does my credit card limit have anything to do with being well heeled if there is a cruise on it?

We certainly aren't wealthy or well-heeled (0 for 2!) but on some of the longer cruises there are some VERY wealthy people. Joanna and I have talked about it and it never ceases to amaze us how people we know will go into ports and spend MAJOR $$$ (and I mean major!)without batting an eye. Must be nice....

Having worked with people and their money for the last 35 years is a real eyeopener.
Things we notice are those who have incomes over $100,000 and don't give anything to charity; People who are working stiffs who've accumulated over a million in cash and live like paupers; People who spend it all. And usually the spend it alls are happiest unless they're the spend more than they haves. I have a client who worked at a theme park in the photo shop who passed a way last year. Minimum wage job. We just distributed $1.5 million to her heirs in a trust. Never travelled; lived in a very small condo with thrift shop furnishings and never travelled. Left half her estate to Charity, never had children.

Well, the funny part is that she left little bitty pieces to a whole bunch of cousins, nieces, nephews and all of their heirs. I did all the paperwork. :D

Reply to Chatcat - I used to be a tax auditor. If I was auditing the return of someone with a lot of money and their charitable contributions were nil or nearly nil, I was much less lenient than I would have been with a more generous individual. It's very sad when people don't enjoy their money or even have the gratification of giving to others.

Ollie,
I feel the same about my clients too. I am much more apt to be giving to those who give as well! It tells a lot about someone, doesn't it?

Victor, wow what a gift! Advising someone about the PG is tough, without knowing what kind of person it is. Do they love water sports, for example? Are they sendentary or active?
Whatever they do, they should be on the starboard side of the ship, on deck or on their balcony, when the ship repositions from Raiatea to Taha'a, in the morning (what day depends whether it's the 7-day itinerary--if that, it's Monday.) The view of Taha'a is very nice as the ship sails by.

Come on folks!! Wealth is a comparative thing. You cannot be hurting if you can afford to spend the Regent per diem for vacation. I used to have a 36' sailing boat and always looked at the 40'+ sailors as "wealthy". The same goes for the Carnival guy out for a wonderful week with his family!!!if he ever looks at the Regent catalog.
