We were spending a few down days at Birkenhead. On second day a large brush fire broke out in Hermanus. Smoke was unbelievable so thick forcing all inside. Power went out at 4pm. The staff did an amazing job giving us a great dinner. Kitchen was operating by candle light but gas stoves. Went to bed by candlelight and fortunately a large rainstorm. That took care of fire but the fire had burned a major power line. With no power on site they moved us back to Cape Town to Silo. Had wanted to try it out . Must say they treated us like royalty. Large 10 floor suite. Lots of extras including late check out and transfer toV and A for our night before off to Mala Mala for 4 nights. Getting on Oceania cruise to Singapore next Sunday. Life is good

They did the same thing for us when that freak storm knocked out power at La Residence during our safari a few years ago. We moved to the Silo. Very unique property at least you had a chance to experience it.

Ah Mala Mala! I am jealous heaven on earth. Give everyone a hug from me and Ken.

Finally at Mala Mala. Just like coming home. Saw two young male rhino on the way in from airstrip right by the vehicle. We have Reggie for our ranger. He’s 28(looks12 but everyone does these days He has been here a year and half but at main camp. He also worked in Madikwe reserve. Hot and we are on summer schedule. We will see what it is like to go out at 4:30 am. Already told them we wanted to eat earlier. All menus are a la carte. Only 8 people but full tomorrow. Knew you had had the same problem at Birkenhead so I knew what to ask for and not feel we were pushing too hard
Heard Melbourne is really hot

Yikes that is EARLY but in the heat probably necessary. Any of the rangers you know there? We hope you have great sightings, could be lots of young impalas around.
