What are plans for pre-cruise in Dubai? We get in late on 19th and staying hotel in city that night then going to Waldorf on Palm Jumeirah on 20th. Anyone else going to be at one of the resorts on Palm Jumeirah; looks like it will be a great place to relax and test run the snorkel gear. thumbsup

We are taking our money saved on Qatar air and spending two nights in desert at Al Maha. Still needing a place for 20th in Dubai. This will probably be our only trip this way, so we are going to do it over the top. Once you hit 70 you realize that your far flung traveling days are finite so we are going to enjoy every minute of it.

Third night will probably be the Park Hyatt since we have enough points for a free night.

Andrea and I are arriving on the 17th (evening) and staying at the Grand Hyatt. We pooled points and got a club level room!

Pam - Al Maha will be amazing!! I can't wait to hear all about it. When I was in Dubai last year I did a desert safari with Platinum Heritage, and they use the private reserve where Al Maha is located. Planning on doing the safari again with Lauri, and of course tea at the Burj.

Hopefully I'll get to see the pool this time at the GH. Last year it actually rained when I was there!

I just realized that there are SEVEN Emirates and SPICE hits three (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah). As we have booked a room in Sharjah (the only "dry" Emirate), we are up to four. Looking at a map, it appears that a 40 or 50 mile taxi trip or car rental will get us to Ajman, Umm al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah; the other three Emirates. This is sure a lot easier than our four corners tour. wonder

Any interest in a tour?

Marc, in the past some of the ships tours have taken us through some of these Emirates on the way to other places--check it out. I'm pretty sure we've been to Sharjah and Umm al Quwain on a ships tour--not so sure about the others.

Andrea,
Which Platinum Heritage tour did you take last year? Also, which tea did you attend at the Burj? Thanks so much for your input.

Cheron, I did the Heritage Dinner Safari - it was fantastic. I need to check with Lauri to see which night we're going to go but maybe we can all go together and have a private Rover.

At the Burj I did the Sky Tea at the Skyview Bar. I had a later reservation so I wasn't seated by a window - which didn't matter anyway because it was raining and foggy - but I think we'll go earlier in the afternoon this time.

I'm flexible as far as what night to do the safari. A private Rover for the four of us would be very cool!

I still can't believe you had rain and fog in Dubai!
