Does anyone who's been to Berlin have a driver or guide to recommend?

Try the hop on hop off bus to get a good overview of the city and then you can walk almost anywhere you want to see.

Berlin Walks tours are terrific - they do lots of them in Berlin and also to sights outside Berlin. The city is really easy to get around in - walking and metro.

I totally agree with Leslie. We have taken 3 group tours with them and 1 private tour. The group tours were just as good as the private tour. If you are at the airport, you can buy a coupon book which includes discounts on the tours among other things.

Good afternoon from the UK.

I spotted this thread and noticed a little inactivity for a while.

Having only recently returned from a Viking River Cruise along the Elbe that culminated in a few days in Berlin I thought I might add a new aspect to the thread.

I do thoroughly agree with member JBittle above. It is possible to walk to almost all the sites worth visiting in Berlin.

That is what my wife and I did having armed ourselves with a trusted guide book...

A little time spent pre-planning your preferred sites/itinerary will prove well worthwhile, as is choosing a central hotel as your base.

Of course no visit to Berlin is complete without a walk through the Brandenburg Gate...

Checkpoint Charlie...

(That's me folks, 2 Euros well spent) wink wink

...and of course the touching and quite amazing Holocaust Memorial

I trust this information is of interest.

Happy cruising.
