Should we renew our AmEx Platinum card if the only reason we have it is for SBC ??
I know you can't get SBC from both Signature and AmEx right? When we fly overseas we fly Biz Class so don't need it to get in lounges.

We chewed on that question for some time but finally cancelled the Platinum Card, especially since we seem to be cruising only once a year.

Marice, you may want call AMX-P (phone #on back of your card) and ask them for a renewal incentive. Ida did last month and got 25K Membership reward points as an incentive to renew. Toss in the $200 airline fee and the $450 annual fee is covered. Moreover, u still get lounge access and a priority pass card. Good luck

I also like it for the hotel upgrades. We got a grand canal view room as a free upgrade in Venice, published difference was $700 a night! Plus I can bring guests into the lounges (the 'kids' fly coach).

Regent doesn't allow both AMEX & Signatures SBC, but some other lines do. We got both on Azamara.

I forgot about the $200. airline fee...makes decision tougher. We do use that domestically with meals (%#*&? if that's what you want to call them).

Have you signed up for Global Entry yet? Amex will refund the $100 application fee for Platinum & Centurion cards. Global Entry also gets you trusted traveler status for airports that are doing TSA Pre check. Separate line which is more like pre 9/11 screening. You keep your shoes on, don't have to separate your laptop, and the screeners are actually friendly!

Yes John, we have the Global Entry. Should work well flying in and out of LAX.

This card is totally worth it, the perks are great and also there are little things that people do not talk about. I second airline credit fee and Global entry as well is a great perk.. But little things like I bought a pair of Revo sunglasses last year they were $300 and I lost them, Amex credited me the full amount so I could get another pair, this goes beyond Purchase protection because only the Amex Centurion and Amex Plat have this perk.

I just cancelled mine. It's no longer worth it to me, and here in Canada they've raised the fee. They have a perk for a $200 rebate on travel, but you have to use an Amex travel agent. I will miss the lounges here in Canada, but oh well.
