We have not thought about it either - well not serious thinking - we had thought about going into Paris early as we have friends there we'd love to see - maybe tack a couple of days pre and couple of days post - it seems so far away (18 months?) but then again I booked B2B March 2007  we used FF points for Fjords and Samba so trying to replenish for Paris....

Add Jim & Pat to the list. We definitely want to spend extra time in Amsterdam at the end of the cruise. I like the Hotel Krasnapolski at the Dam Square because most of what you want to see is within wasy walking distance. Jim

Ngaire & Ken "ESCORTED" River cruise December 2nd 2009 aboard the Amadeus AMACELLO. 3 days in Paris then 7 day cruise to Amsterdam. Interesting: I have looked everywhere and can not seem to find what the dress code will be for this cruise. Any idea??

We have done 5 river cruises in Europe & are doing our 6th this summer in Russia. They have all been extremely casual. Some people do dress up for the captian's farewell but since we have always had lengthy pre and/or post cruise trips we do not waste the packing space.
We took our children to Paris,Christmas, 1999. It was bitter cold. There was a hurricane that year and the winds uprooted the trees in Versailles & broke again the St. Chapelle windows.
You are going to love river cruising.

Please add us to your list. Ken and Sheila. We are in 307. We'll probably fly to England first to see my parents and niece, then after the cruise stay with friends in Amsterdam....had a wonderful Christmas and New Year there a few years ago in the snow.

Jim Bittle had commented about extra days in Amsterdam and suggested the Hotel Krasnapolski. I just remembered to look at it again and Jan B said, "Oh I've been there. Stayed two days. It was very nice and close to everything". If we can talk, Bing, Carol, Bill, and Sharon into it I think we might like to do this. Kind of thinking the 6 of us drive to Denver and use it as our "gateway City" so all of us would have to agree to do the extra days. Bill & Sharon have a full size van which was converted and has 8 captain chairs in it. Makes it very nice to travel in.

We're still not sure about post stay or not. Another very nice hotel where we stayed in Amsterdam is Hotel Pulitzer. It's right on the canal and is made up of restored canal houses. We redeemed Starwood points when we stayed there so we'd likely do the same again.
Hope the drive to Denver works out for you Jim.

I think we might be interested in doing this cruise. Carla has been driving me crazy to go to Paris, but I have been putting it off for years. Just not top on my list!! But with all these great people cruising, it would be a blast.

Lukes parents O.L and Joan are the NICEST people. So glad they are joining us you will all really like them.
I had a little event in Dallas with Regent and Joan won the door prize. Pearls from the Pearl Market in Beijing. I always buy extras for things like this. She was so excited she had never won anything before. She tells me each time I talk to her how much she loves her pearls. Could not have happened to a nicer lady.

When I went to Cruise roll call and Cruise Acronym List "PARIS" was missing!!! But when I went from show topics from last 60 days to last 75 days "PARIS" was there. Kind of went to a page two. By posting a comment it brought it back to page one. that really is why I posted that comment. :D

I apologize for this third post of the same info, but Ngaire asked that I post it here due to the relevancy of the fly in/out port stops, so please forgive the redundancy!! You are so lucky to visit these wonderful cities.
I know some of you are flying into Paris next year and with the price of airfare going up, I wanted to share my experience with this airline. L'Avion is a discount business class airline that flies between NY and Paris or Amsterdam. It recently merged with Open Skies and is now owned by British Air. I flew round trip to Paris on it over the XMAS holidays for $1450 and would like to offer a brief review.
I just spent Dec 19-22 in Paris and can't say enough nice things about the city. The people, food and sight were wonderful. My daughter went out with me on L'Avion to Paris and is coming back Open Skies through Amsterdam and staying at the Banks Mansion Hotel there. I will get her review of the hotel and the airline out of Amsterdam and post it at a later date.
L'Avion is a step down from business class air like Lufthansa or Continental but a step up from BA's World Class Plus. The plusses are: A very nice lounge with excellent food in Newark (next to BA or Virgin...the best food I have ever had in a lounge), easy and courteous check in both in Newark and Orly, only 90 passengers so no lines, good leg room, comfortable wide seats, tasty food..but not the extravagance of normal biz class, good service, very fast delivery of baggage, closeness of Orly to Paris, good pricing, you wait in the lounge and are escorted to the plane as a group with the gate next to the lounge. Negatives are : there is a hefty change fee of $450 once ticketed if you get the best rate, the seats are the old fashioned business class seats-no flat bed or even inclined seats, if you have the inside seat you have a tough time getting out when the seat in front of you is fully reclined and you bother your seatmate, mediocre entertainment system, food is just a step above economy though very tasty and two courses with wine served, you cannot check in until 3 hours before flight. Would I take it again? Yes, in a heart beat. It was very civilized.
Since I am posting here...I would also like to recommend Hotel D'Aubusson in Paris in the Saint Germaine area. It has special XMAS specials and is a lovely hotel and is so well located. It isn't too expensive for what it offers. I had a three night package for $310 which included breakfast each day, tickets to the D'Orsay or the Louvre, a river cruise and a tea. It was one block from the Pont Neuf. The service was lovely. There was a live jazz band Wed thru Sun. The 5 night package included transportation from the airport or train station. The more charming rooms were the $360 per night deluxe rooms which had canopy beds and 10 foot beamed ceilings. It was walking distance to just about everything and very central to the XMAS markets, restaurants and museums.

Yippee....booked our air today going to Paris (via 3 night stopover with family in NYC) using Delta f.f. miles. We decided to go with Delta all the way round trip from/to LAX. Good news too is how quickly the Starwood points transferred into Delta f.f. account....only took 48 hours! I also called Amadeus lady and found out the hotel we'll be at in Paris. It is a Holiday Inn (in the process of becoming Crowne Plaza by the time we arrive) This is the link for the hotel Holiday Inn Paris Republique We've only been to Paris once but from what we remember, this is a good location and it's SMACK at the Republique metro stop which is wonderful and lets us get around easily.

Has Amadeus come out with their air price for this trip? I could not find air on the website. Viking River Cruises have some very reasonable add on air packages.
