British Airways just announced a terrific promotion... 50% off award flights. You need to book right away (before August 12) but you can fly anytime through August 3 of next year (2012).

This applies to BA metal flights (not code shares operated by another airline and not on partner flights). I think this may still be a good deal for certain routes. We're going to try to get tickets to the Maldives.

Note this applies to Economy and Premium Economy, but not Business or First class. I was more excited before I read the fine print.

Me too Eugene! Coach from the West Coast to Europe? Maybe they will expand it. Thanks anyway for the scoop, Andrea.

DRATS! I got the email too and was excited; HOWEVER, we have to use partner airline (AA) to connect to BA.

I tried to call BA during the day yesterday, last night, and this morning, and each time it was an estimated 35-minute wait. I was trying to see how to book multi-city award tickets, relevant for our cruise. Also, the BA Web site kept getting overloaded.

A colleague said that the only way was to do two one-way tickets. I could have sworn I was able to do this before at one time. (If one has to go the one-way route, what happens if you book one, and you can't get the return even if you try immediately?)

Some where else, I read that the 50% promotion wasn't even applicable for multi-city awards, though I don't see that in the T&Cs.

Give me Delta dumb.com any time. At least I can figure out what's going on most of the time, even if the mileage requirements are sometimes insane.

I've been trying to get one way flights to the UK for next month for weeks on either Continental or BA. I spent 40 minutes on hold with BA yesterday and there is just nothing from the West Coast. Three FF tickets on the same flight is almost impossible!
I have tons of Delta miles I wish I could use but they must be the last major airline that won't allow one way ff tickets.

Hope it works out for you Julie. We'd be in same case I bet if we were looking (non-stop from LAX). Wonder why Delta hasn't switched to one way, makes so much more sense.

Marcie, I finally found something. Have to go in a day earlier than I would like and it's in coach not biz but I got us three seats SFO-FRA-EDinburgh on Lufthansa. Then we'll come back on the QM2.

I love it when you can fly once and cruise at least back to USA (SAMBA comes to mind). Glad it worked out Julie.

Thanks Marcie. When you are travelling with a 3 year old, 1 eleven hour flight is enough!
