Saturday's Wall Street Journal had rate at 7.7821.

You can also get online quotes - google currency rates etc

Thanx everyone! Will do some checking. Checked AMEX today; still no posting. Let it go to 8!

Checked with AMEX today and it was posted. Actually for quite a bit less than we expected. I think we saved enough money to get a private tour or two in Cape Town. Now, for John to get completely healed and back to work. The doctor said probably in about 3 weeks if all goes well. Judy

Andrea - and I thought I was so smart paying off GAME on Monday at 7.8! Still I can't complain. Better rate than initial deposit.

Wow! 8.0 is great. The only word of caution we have to watch out for is South African inflation. We are getting a better exchange rate against the Rand when our Dollar is being hammered against the Euro. This may be good in the short run and should encourage everyone to take advantage of it. The only concern is that the merchants of South Africa start to make up for their weakened Rand by raising prices. I think this will affect us more since our Dollar is weaker against the Euro. The South African economy is especially interesting since they have such a unique tie to the precious metal commodity markets. Hopefully someone with much more insight than me will weigh in and give their opinion.

If the exchange rate was getting better because our Dollar was getting stronger then I wouldn't worry at all. I just worry that something else may be in play and hopefully someone can shed more light on the situation. By the way, don't get me wrong. I'm not all doom and gloom.. I'm going to take as much advantage as I can from this good exchange rate no matter why it's happening!!!

South Affrica is undergoing serious power outages because of electical crisis which gov. says will take five years to alleviate.

Many stores and businesses are forced to close when the power goes out, thus losing sales.

That may be a factor in the declining Rand. It sure isn't due to the "strength" of our serverely weakened dollar over the past few years!

Yes inflation is hitting South Africa prices and prices are going up. Makes our ROAR an even greater value based on the old 2006 prices.

I have one space open and then we are completely full so if there is anyone else out there that wants to come it is the Madikwe/Leopard Hills combination.

Guess we should of waited. We always jump the gun. ngaire, wish we could take our daughter to fill that one spot you have left. Not an option for us though. She would love it as she is an animal lover and loves travel. Judy

You cannot time these things Judy and it could drop like a rock. I think we all did well it had been below 7.00 for so so long. If we could time the market and the currencies we would all be able to afford world cruises!

Judy - glad he is getting better news from the medical doctors and hoping he's back to work very soon. It is a very difficult road, indeed.

To happier, healthier days for both of you!

Cheers, Anne
