Does SAA really do this: from CPT to JNB
From SAA web site Carry on Luggage: ONE piece of cabin baggage per person. Approximate size: 22”x17”x10”, with a weight of 7 kilos (15lbs)
So how does one travel with computer and camera gear?

www.flyingwithfish.com He's a travelling photographer. He has links on his website. Some photographers put their lenses in their jacket pockets and carry their cameras.

In Business it is 2 pieces.
In coach it is the same as US. One carryon and one personal item.

But aren't we all going Coach from CPT to JNB to get the flights to the Safari camps?
If so, then only one carryon is allowed. I assume a Large camera bag will be considered a carryon, so my Duffel will have to be checked.

Gil, can't you fit Arlene's purse into your duffel and get in that way? Or does she have a duffel, too?
I just tried OLCI on Delta, and it refused because of "visa requirements" that don't exist.

Len's really worried about this SAA carry-on bag limit. His camera bag is huge (one of those Tamron backpacks) and heavy, and I'm carrying a small rolling carry-on. I usually also wear a small backpack, but I'm going to try and stuff that into one of our checked bags and just carry a small purse.
I'm sure it will all work out, but it is causing a bit of stress! LOL!
We upgraded to biz class from CPT to JNB, but we're not traveling with the rest of the group. (We can't handle the small planes to the camps, so we're leaving CPT early on Saturday morning and will take a larger regional plane from JNB to Hoedspruit and then we'll drive to Kings Camp.)

Andrea, if you are in business class on SAA, your limit is higher.
From their website: First and Business class
South African Airways will accept two pieces of cabin baggage, each not exceeding a total dimension of 115 cm and 8 kg in weight.
Economy class
South African Airways will accept one piece of cabin baggage not exceeding 115 cm and 8 kg in weight.
In addition to the above are the following items may also be accepted carry-on baggage subject to space availability:
Handbag, pocket book or purse Overcoat, wrap or blanket Umbrella or walking stick Small camera and / or binoculars

We each have a small rolling duffle, I have my purse. We upgraded to biz from CPT to JNB because of the whole luggage thing; I have so much going on everywhere that it was one less thing to have to worry about. But my camera bag is inside my duffle, with room to spare; I'm a point n shoot girl.

I just tried OLCI on Delta, and it refused because of "visa requirements" that don't exist. He thinks we'll have a problem but if necessary I'll be able to pack what we need for the camps in one duffle. I have us covered...lol
