Arlene and I are wondering what are the plans for Friday, 22 June, in Copenhagen. We were thinking of spending the evening at Tivoli Gardens; apparently there are over 30 restaurants there. Another option would be to get on the Voyager early as it is overnighting in Copenhagen; however, it might be more fun to postpone our embarkation until Saturday and enjoy the nightlife of the City.

Any thoughts?

In addition to the restaurants, there are several entertainment venues, included in the admission price. We saw a "Big Band," and a variety-type show, including acrobats which were quite good.

We arrived about 5 PM and were surprised with a parade, including marching band and golden coach, holding the "King and Queen", all children!

Tivoli Gardens is great--you'll love it. Be sure and walk around the whole place and view the absolutely gorgeous flowers everywhere. Another place you might want to think about for dinner is Nyhaven--there's one restaurant after another right on a small harbor -- a very scenic place with lots of locals around. Be sure to have some ice cream, wherever you go :D

In Tivoli they have fireworks when they close the park at night. We were tired and didn't stay :( . We liked Tivoli so much that we went the 2 nights we were in Copenhagen!

The best churros ( the deep fried dough with sugar on top typical of Spain and Latin America) I have ever had were from a little stand inside Tivoli. I still dream about those churros. Not even in Spain are they so good!

Copenhagen is one of the loveliest cities I have ever visited. If time, its Jewish Museum is a wonder. The floors are slanted at different angles to put you off balance as you go through the small exhibits.

If the weather is pretty, definitely recommend a canal tour; you can get one at Nyhaven or somewhere "downtown" close to Tivoli. See a lot with no effort!

When we were there last year, we went to an outstanding restaurant not far from the Hotel Anglitierre. I will try to find the name. We were with a couple we met on the ship, and the hotel had recommended it to them. We did the degustation menu, and everything was unbelievable! They had a course before desert that was a pre-desert of creme brulee, perfectly crisped. I thought I could die right there. Even my sister, who was under the weather, had a great time.
Marcia, do you remember the name?

The other fun thing was the department store very close to the top of the premenade. Close to the George Jensen store. My sister bought a lovely down comforter and shipped it right to Chicago. And I carted a wonderful children's blanket that I use for my feet in the winter.
Such a great city. Almost as good as Helsinki, my favorite thus far.

Wow, I had no idea that getting on ship Friday was even an option. We booked at the SW for $$$, has anyone ever boarded the night before our scheduled embarkation before? I still think we will really enjoy the city on Friday night. We are there one night post cruise as well......

Cindy, sorry for the confusion. I meant go on board for dinner the night before. We would have to go as guests of passengers on the previous cruise and pay for our dinner. No room to actually stay onboard.

I agree enthusiastically with Peggy about going to Nyhavn for dinner. It is the liveliest place in Copenhagen. They call it something like "the longest bar in the world", since it is several blocks of restaurants and bars, almost all of which have seating outside as well as inside. One of our favorites in Nyhavn is Lenore Christine, at Nyhavn 9. The restaurant in the 71 Nyhavn Hotel is also very good. The area is great fun at night.

Cindy, people look at me the same way. I try to avoid explaining but when I start talking about travel, I end up mentioning the "cruise board" and the questions start.

I can't wait to meet everyone. Since I've never had sambuca, maybe I'll join you in that first drink.

This is all starting to sound 'real'! I can't believe I fly to New York in two weeks! I'm not looking forward to the flight at all but knowing I'll be meeting up with Ray and Penny (not to mention my son)is a good incentive.

We stayed in the Nyhavn area last year and loved the atmosphere. For those who've been to Sydney - it reminded me of 'The Rocks' area. We went to the Tivoli but only during the day

Cindy: You are not alone - I got quite excited at the thought of boarding the night before until I realised the passengers already on board don't leave the ship until the day we board.

Wish we could join you pre-cruise but we're on Regent air and don't get in until day of cruise. Hopefully they'll wait for us if plane is delayed. We were in Tivoli Gardens some years ago and tried to stay u p for the fireworks but it was hopeless! I have a picture of us pooped out on a bench! We gave up and went to the hotel to bed. Probably we were in our 70's then and not very good night owls.

Hi folks,

So, did anyone ever say exactly where (Tivoli Gardens covers 2-4 square blocks...) and when we're all going to meet up tonight for our pre-cruise get-together? I've searched all the threads that seem to be Fjordic and no luck.
