I got my Sony Rear Projection LCD HD TV. This is almost 3D. I can't belive the improvement over my old one at half the price. Got to wonder, whats next.

Oh good! Glad you found what you wanted, Chip!

Isn't the picture amazing on the HD screen?

I can't get over the difference. I have to keep my dog on a leash now in my living room. To keep her from chasing Eddie on Frasier.

Robert, You have to get used to the LCD way of looking at things when looking at a analog signal. But the HD viewing is something like I've never seen before.

Chip,

What size and model number did you buy? Is it the new model with the built in HD tuner? How are the colors and the contrast? Does it look bright during the day?

We are thinking about the Sony also.

Hope you really like it!

Thanks,

Ginny

P.S. Where did you buy it?

Chip,

Glad to hear you like the TV. We are having to now consider TV purchases for our home that is being built. I think I have decided to go with the Sony LCD rear projection in 'my room' (bonus room) as Paige call it (60 inch) and a plasma screen (42 inch) in the family room.

Glad to have your recommendation

Anthony

Margo - I would go with Pioneer, Panasonic, JVC, or Fujitsu. All get high marks from their owners (oh, and Hitachi as well). :) Fujitsu has been classically considered the best plasma in the mainstream lines but is also one of the more expensive ones.

I really don't need the flat screen plasma. I have the room. The Sony is 1/3 the size of my old rear projection which took 4 people to get out of the house. I have to change the resolution on the Tivo going back and forth from regular to HD TV. One thing that figured into my choice was that if a Plasma ever breaks you throw it away. There is on blub on the LCD projection that can burn out but can be replaced. Also it is quite a bit cheaper than the Plasma Sony of the same size. I was looking in keeping mine longer term. Can't wait to see whats out there in 4 years. I don't see how it can get any better.

We're still using our 10 year old Sony 27" TV's - one in the bedroom and one in the den/office. Can't convince Frank that it's time to upgrade. We'll have to watch the technolgy advance and then become affordable. Who ever thought you'd buy a DVD player for less than $100? When we bought our first BetaMax is was $1200..now LONG gone.....

Kathy, we're in the same boat. We're looking to replace the small one in our family room. Unfortunately, it sits in a huge opening that is now too small for the newer widescreens. We are struggling with our decision. It's hard to justify spending so much money on a TV that we rarely watch. I just want to fill up the ugly hole! Plus, I want the surround sound and new audio system.

I would highly suggest is that anyone who purchases a Plasma that they also get the extended warranty as Chip said if it breaks you need to throw it away but with an extended warranty, it should be replaced...

Margo,

I think we are going to go with the newest Sony (called the XBR line). By all we have read and heard form others it is a very goog, albeit a bit pricy.

Masaki, have you any bad dirt on this one?

I'm a child, ok? I've been a high end audio nut for twenty years and a high end TV nut for 5 years. Crazy hobbies! It's God's way of saying you have too much money! And then you don't ...

My recommendation to all that are interested in hi quality video to go to a national bookstore and buy or subscribe to "The Perfect Vision", a great publication covering big screen TV's. In particular, their discussions of the relative strengths and weaknesses of various technologies, e.g., plasma vs. LCD., etc., I think would be of value to anyone in the market for a new big screen.

This is somewhat of a technical publication but it also has EXCELLENT movie reviews. Articulate, penetrating and enjoyable insights into current and older DVD releases.

If you have any questions regarding HDTV technology in general or a question about a specific manufacturer, but not about specific sets, just ask. Just remember its only one person's opinion.

Bill - I actually have a subscription to the Perfect Vision. :D Also subscribe to Sound & Vision as well (the sequel to Stereo Review).

Anthony - XBR plasmas are very nice. Pricey but very nice. A few years ago, I would have told you to save your money since Sonys were not doing too well with their plasmas. The newer generations are much better.

However, you may want to take a look at this link before you invest in a Sony plasma:

Just something to think about ...

Phil - I'm sure it'll still be a fine plasma. The problem may come down the line though if you're looking for support/repairs in the future if it breaks.
