Okay, another link for a free sample. It's for a sample of Greenies. They are great dog bones, and Niko loves them. www.greenies.com

There was some health warning on TV a while back about Greenies. Something about dogs becoming quite ill as they don't digest properly or something like that. Not sure if the claim was valid, but I stopped giving them to my dogs just to be safe.

I heard they reformulated the product because of the issue Sue stated. Perhaps it would be wise to call up the company and ask for customer service?

This is on their FAQ page:
Why are original Greenies® being phased out on store shelves?
We will be phasing out the original Greenies® on store shelves throughout the fall, because the new product marks the next generation in canine dental care. The new Greenies® will be available nationwide in November 2006.

Sonja's dog got sick when she gave those to him. And he was grouchy.

"Greenies" is (are??) a very controversial product. Some vets we know think they're great, since they help remove tartar from your poochie's teeth. To do that, however, the doggie must chew the treat and play with it, rather than soften it for a moment and then swallow it nearly whole, as our cairn terrier does. The "treat" can then become a serious stomach or intestinal obstruction. Because of that, a couple of our vet buddies and our dog behaviorist are adamant that the product should not be used for those dogs who like to swallow treats almost whole. Much as our two dogs love Greenies, the little green things are off the treat menu in our house because we are not inclined to set Katyusha, the cairn, up for abdominal surgery to remove the undigested treats. I've tried to show her how to eat more delicately and not just gulp her grub down; but she insists on doing it the old-fashioned terrier way. (Of course, she may have gotten that whole idea from watching her two dads inhale their food on many occasions - hmm, gluttony must run in the family...)
