Can anyone tell me whether riding a zip-line feels more like parasailing or a roller-coaster dive? I've signed up for the Canopy Adventure in Ketchikan and am having second thoughts. I love parasailing, but roller-coasters (especially the steep dives) scare the bejeebers out of me!
oh my oh my oh my

The zip lines are fantastic. I hate roller coasters and have never parasailed so can't help you there except to say it is nothing like a roller coaster. It is pure speed and breaking. The higher the speed, the easier it is. That is why some light weights have problems. Breaking is all in technique (i.e., if you are on a good enough course where you can build up speed) and the amount of slack in the line.
I would definitely go for it!

We tried zip lining in Whistler up in British Columbia, Canada and loved it! I am a big wus who hates roller coasters and I didn't find this scary at all. I did parasail in Moorea and thought that it was much more tranquil than this. Zip lining is more of a rush, but without the huge and horrifying drops that you experience on a roller coaster. Go for it you won't regret it!

Thank you, sundial & Marc, for your views and kind encouragement! Feeling much less anxious about trying zip-lining. Very much appreciate how LCTers can always be counted on for good advice as well as support.
:lct:
BTW, Marc, I lurve your penguin avatar (is that what it's called?) -- it's hilarious and so cute!

Eileen, I ziplined in Costa Rica with my daughter and her friend. I was a little nervous on the first cable, but once I did that one it was great! I highly recommend it. (The lady just ahead of me was 78 years young.)

Jody, thank you! Your post is most reassuring. If a lady 78 years young can do it, then there's definitely hope for me! <img border="0" alt="[vhappy]" title="" src="graemlins/icon_vhappy.gif" />
