We received our documents (I did the dance as prescibed by this list)and we are overnight in Los Angeles. How is the hotel food-or should we look for a nearby restaurant? Somewhere is says that a buffet breakfast is included...

Oh shoot! I posted my question under the wrong heading. Can a moderator take pity on the computer challenged?

We stayed at the LAX Hilton both in 2004 and 2005 and the food was fine at the hotel. We arrived early enough in the afternoon of 2004 to check out the neighborhood and decided that staying at the hotel would be the best idea.

The neighbourhood is no great shakes. Best to eat in the hotel, unless you take a cab elsewhere. Last trip, our relatives picked us up and whisked us over to Manhattan Beach for Mexican food. You could always take a cab to some neighbourhood where you could stroll, but really the Hilton's neighbourhood ain't it, not dangerous or anything, just bleak.

The food in the Hilton is, well, Hilton hotel food. If you have lots of time, you could take a taxi and have a really nice dinner; however, we ate at the hotel and we able to meet others on our cruise.
The breakfast was really good - better than most included hotel breakfast. And there was a section of Japanese breakfast items which made it more intersting.

If time allows, you would enjoy walking around Manhattan Beach...cute little beach town just 6-7 minutes from LAX with shops, restaurants, etc. There is absolutely nothing to see walking up and down Century Blvd...sleezy, stuff like Pussy Cat XX Theater!

Thank you all for your replies. I think hotel food is in order-and maybe we will meet someone going on the cruise!

Betsy, are you at the Hilton? The first time we did PG we were at the Hilton. Then the second time they put us at the Radisson which was awful. My daughter who was only 18 then had a pair of drunks knock on the wall and door (interconnecting) all night. Finally she called me and came in to our room. Which meant none of us slept with all the antics going on...
I hope we are at the Hilton when we are on the PG this december.
I had asked a similar question and was told that Marina del Rey is a nice area with some good restaurants.

Actually, in a situation like you had at the Radisson, a call to the front desk was in order. Security would have come up and removed the offenders to another room or quieted them down.
The Hilton is a nice hotel; I attend a conference there every year and they are very accomodating; If you came in early, then I would say venture out - but if you've traveled all day, well, you might was to rest up to get in Island Mode for Tahiti.
You could also hop in a cab, go to In-and-Out Burger and bring your dinner back to your room. That's one of the closest ways to eat. Get extra Napkins. Or Hop the Hotel Shuttle and eat at the Encounter Restaurant in the center of LAX. It's quite the happening place these days.

Miriam- yes, we are at the Hilton. Omaha-Denver-Lax on Thurs the 12th-Tahiti on the 13th. Not ever having been to Los Angeles, I thought we should do a little something- I would settle for the famous In-and-Out burger as suggested by ChatKat!

ChatKat, We did call the desk immediately it happened. It gave us a brief respite - about 10 minutes and then they started up again. It was some kind of sports event day (February). Called the desk again another breather and then again.....finally gave us.
Next am the hallway was littered with beer bottles.
We complained to Radisson and they credited us extra gold points and included a gift cert to eat in their restaurants. Not that I would want to repeat the experience.
Hopefully, this time we will be in the Hilton!

We had a group of 12 and decided to eat at the hotel instead of wandering off somewhere. We had a very good meal and enjoyed ourselves.
