Ok I need some help. Anyone here from the Atlanta area or familiar with the area?

I will be at a Continuing Education course <img border="0" alt="[sleep]" title="" src="graemlins/sleep.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[bang]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> there on May 21-23 staying at one of the hotels near the airport (where the course is given). Any ideas for good resturants (not too far away) that we could visit?

Thanks for any help provided.

Anthony

Anthony,
What type of food do you like? We live in the northern suburbs but great restuarants Midtown/Buckhead...actually there is one called Oscars that is on the south side of the airport which always gets good reviews...

Ronnie,

Thanks for the reply. We like many things but am always looking for good seafood, steak, or great Italian.

Any suggestions you have would be most appreciated.

Thanks again!

Anthony

Hi Anthony,
That's a tough one! I have read some reviews of Oscar's, but don't remember what they're known for and frankly, the airport area is not the greatest location. Downtown (8-10 miles,) there's a Ritz-Carlton, Morton's, top of the Peachtree Plaza Hotel(70 stories tall I believe). But we don't go downtown either. Our favorite is Chops Steakhouse & Lobster Bar in Buckhead, about 6 miles north of downtown. For "an experience," there's Fogo de Chao, an Argentinian steakhouse, where the gauchos come to your table and carve meat from giant skewers for you,, including filet, other cuts of beef, lamb, etc. There's also a very elegant salad bar. They keep coming around until you say "Stop!" It's also in Buckhead. I believe there's also one in Dallas. Maybe Ngaire's been?

Anthony,
For seafood, go to Atlanta Fish Market (owned by same group that owns Chops:
http://www.buckheadrestaurants.com/home2.html) Fogo de Chao is a great experience and the food is very good (in fact we have plans for later in the month) but do make reservations ahead of time especially if this is on the weekend...For Italian we love Dominicks (if Bobby is there tell him that you were referred by Chuck & Ronnie) but that is in Norcross about 30 minutes (not in rush hour) north of the airport but the food is great !! If you want wonderful sushi and great live fish, go to Asahi...it is also further north but well worth the drive and easy to get to as it is on 85North at Jimmy Carter Boulevard (if you go tell Sato that Chuck & Ronnie recommended it and he will take care of you)...

Here are a couple of reviews:
Oscars: http://www.accessatlanta.com/restaurants/content/auto/dining/23010.html
Fago de Chao:

Atlanta Fish Market

In fact this is the link for restaurant review: http://www.accessatlanta.com/restaurants/content/restaurants/index.html

For a unique experience, there's also Dante's Down the Hatch in Buckhead. It's all fondue (beef, chicken, pork, seafood, cheese, and dessert) with a great live jazz. The proprietor is an interesting man named Dante Stephenson who was one of the first Navy SEALs.

Just an update - we have decided where we will be eating and thank you all for the comments.

Ronnie, we will be eating at Dominick's on Friday and Atlanta Fish Market on Saturday. We will give you details of our experience once we return.

Thank you all again for all of the information! cheer

Anthony,
I have been out of town and did not see your email regarding eating at Dominicks on Friday as I would have called the chef and let him know...please let me know how you liked it as we have never had a bad meal there...in fact we are going for dinner tonight...

I am always cautious of recommending restaurants as everyone's tastes are so different...

Ronnie,

Both Dominick's and Atlanta Fish Market were both excellent. Thank you for the recommendations. We were able to sit in the back room so the noise was not bad (but the main area at the bar was loud! - Of course it was Friday night too)

Thanks again!

Anthony

Anthony,
Glad you liked them...I know that Dominicks is loud (my only complaint)...did you happen to ask for Bobby?

I could not for the life of me remember that name while we were there. Service was excellent, as was the food and wine.

Anthony,

So glad you enjoyed the Atlanta area restaurants. I thought of you and Beth in Wilson as I sweltered in Raleigh for the past 5 days!! I don't think it was that hot here in Hotlanta.

Kathy,

The weather in Atlanta was actually very nice the entire weekend. We really had a good time although too much of it was in a lecture room. <img border="0" alt="[bang]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" />
