It has been years since we skied at Vail. Does anyone have recent experiences with airport transportation? We are flying into Eagle/Vail area airport. Any restaurant reservations would also be well received!

Thanks, Pam

I spend 1 month in Vail every summer. Use Colorado Mountain Express to & from Eagle/Vail airport. Cost last summer was $45 pp, one way. They take you right to your condo or hotel door. I would make a reservation on line or via 800 number since it's ski season. Rate could be higher during ski season. I've been using them for 20 years.
Some of the restaurants that are open in winter are closed in summer. Best restaurant for dinner is Sweet Basil. There are many others. If you want more casual Red Lion is good. Music on their porch/bar. Creekside Cafe has good food. Lots of people go to Blu's. I don't think their food is that good and staff has an aloof attitude. If you see any names that look good, you can PM me or email me & I can tell you if I've had experience with them. One thing I know for sure - BRING MONEY! Tourism was way down last summer and they were very worried about what winter would bring.
I don't know anything about Avon or Beaver Creek. Just Vail & Lionshead.

Hi Pam - we were in Vail in January and are going up again on Sunday. We always drive so can't comment on airport transportation, but Colorado Mountain Express has a good reputation.

For restaurants we like Terra Bistro, Sweet Basil, Kelly Liken and Larkspur. We are going to try Up the Creek and Centre V next week.

Here's a link to the Vail DIning Guide which has menus, maps etc.

When will you be there?

Thanks for all the responses. We are flying on March 4th and staying for a week. I have already booked CME for our transfers to the Marriott. The restaurant recommendations are also greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Pam

Betty,

We are staying at the Lionshead Marriott. We stayed there about 8 years ago on our last trip to Vail. Good location and great way to use Marriott points. :)

I agree. You are going to be so surprised how so many things have changed. They are building 2 new hotels next to that Marriott. And the Lionshead Mall open last year where the Gondola Bldg used to be. The gondola might have already moved 8 years ago. I hated the closed in feeling this new development gave the mall, but now that it is finished, it's really nice. And Crossroads is now gone in the Village. But they are building on the site.
I really am jealous. I've been going to Vail since 1977 and never seen it with snow or in the winter. For years I've said - use the Marriott points and go. Instead I've used them for pre & post cruises. One of these days I'll make it. I do check the webcams nearly every day. I know you will have a wonderful time. Have a bowl of chili and maybe a glass of wine at Eagles Nest for me. cheer

Pam,

I hope you have a great trip. The new Lionshed area is very nice. There's a new Chophouse (like the one at Beaver Creek) by the Eagle Bahn gondola. It's high on my list of favorite apres spots. Try the truffled pomme frites and a nice glass of wine. Also, lunch at Two Elk Lodge is awesome. I'm jealous, too!

We've been in Vail since Sunday - staying in Lionshead at the Arrabelle.

It is very warm - in the 40's - on Monday it snowed higher up, freezing rain in the middle mountain and actually rained at the base. Yesterday morning was great - sun out, 8" new snow higher up and terrific conditions where groomed; but in the afternoon the snow was heavy and like skiing through paste on the way down. Think spring. Today is forecast to be warm also and then it will be cooling off some - hopefully they will get more snow and colder temps by the time you arrive next week, Pam.

We enjoyed Centre V the other night - had read mixed reviews but the food and service were very good. There is a gelato place, Rimini, in the Arrabelle complex - delicious!
