We just returned from a wonderful, short, three night stay at Royal Hideaway in Playa del Carmen and the elusive CHAIR HOG Lee Ann wrote about was there, too!
I was flabbergasted to find out some people were up and out of their rooms before 4 a.m. to claim the beach beds and lounge chairs closest to the two main pools. The beach beds are wonderful and some couples slept out there just to claim them for a day...not Tom and I! We were lucky and noticed a gal leaving hers at lunch time and made our move before another "BED HOG" stole it from us! ;)
I realize this isn't a board for land based reports, so if anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer them as we really enjoyed our stay at this 5* resort.

Hi Sue! NOT cool about the chair hogs - you would think people staying at a classy resort like that wouldn't be that way. And the resort should probably have more chairs, being a five star...?
I would sure love to hear all about your stay there!

There's inconsiderate people everywhere - even 5* resorts! I agree with Kristin. You would think they could spread out a few more chairs to accommodate those who are waiting for the hogs to show up or vacate!

Kristin; I sent you pics and some information on our stay. ;)
Joanna I have never been to a Club Med, but from what I've heard about them I'd have to say this is nothing like one.
Trish; I'd be happy to share my pics with you if you'd like to see them (just send me a private message). We travel to many AI's and this was one of the best we've stayed at, yet it did have a few things I'd change (just my opinion). :)

We stayed at Royal Hideaway the week before Christmas a couple years ago. The place was pretty empty so chairs weren't a problem. I did note that the fresh water pool was too cold. No one once they went in went in again, brrrrrr.
The place was nice and we did enjoy the restaurants but don't think I would go again, something about it bothered me, can't put my finger on it. I guess since we rented a condo/house in St. Maarten, a hotel room just doesn't cut it for us anymore on vacation.

Claudia, Royal Hideaway is a couple miles south of the town Playa Del Carmen. Cozumel is almost directly across from Playa Del Carmen. It's a 45 minute drive south from Cancun Airport. http://www.royalhideaway.com/
