I was fortunate enough to get to see the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour from a NASA viewing sight yesterday. Wish you had all been with me. It was awesome. If you would like to see pix Click Here .

Great Pix!!!!

I was very lucky one time coming back from FLL on a Delta flight about 6 years ago to see the space shuttle take off from around 33 thousand feet in the air: People on the plane had bought seats just to be able to take photos, it really was amazing to be that high up and just see the shuttle keep going and going and going and then it was GONE!!!!

Really was something to see:

Great pics Betty! How did you score your tickets to view it from there?

When we lived in Florida we could watch it take off from our front yard (albeit 40+ miles away) I could never get over the idea of being able to see something like that from my front yard! I imagine you can see it from your home too, right Betty?

Frank... I am envious of your view of it... must have been awsome.

For any of you who really have it on your list of things to see, a night launch is even more spectacular as it lights up the sky for miles. Years ago my sister took me out to see one when I was visiting her (long before we lived in Florida) and I kept complaining "why are we going out here so late, grumble grumble grumble) then when I saw it I knew why ... one of the most incredible things I have ever seen.

Like Betty, many years ago I lived on the "Space Coast" and had the chance to see launches, sometimes from the back yard, and other times in the VIP area. The one thing that the photos can't convey is the "feeling" of the launch - the sound of the rockets actually vibrated against your chest as it reaches you. It is an amazing feeling and every time I remember it I feel awed at the accomplishments of our space program. I remember JFK's vow and marvel at the things that have happened in my lifetime.

Thanks everyone!

Yes Margo, not only is it wonderful to see, it does cause one to fill with pride at the advancement of our space program.

Arlene, our daughter Charla works for USA. She was able to score the tickets and invited her mom as her guest. :) You are absolutely right about a night launch (we saw one from there a couple of years ago). Awesome!

Frank, I'll bet that was an interesting flight. E ticket. ;)
