Forgive my ignorance but I avidly followed the posts from Poop in anticipation of our Antartica trip in Jan and still don't quite get it: we can email from the ship but won't have internet access? Is that right? Will my cell phone work? we are going with 2 18 y/o boys, one of whom is having panic attacks about being out of touch with his girlfriend!

Helen - We Poopsters were on the Hanseatic, not Explorer II. Therefore, what we posted about the communications system on our ship may not be applicable to yours. The Hanseatic did not have regular internet access; rather, we each were given an email address which we could use to send and receive text emails. When we were in the Falklands, several passengers were using cell-phones, likely connecting via a tower there. Other than that, I don't recall seeing anyone use a cell phone. Perhaps Ngaire can find out whether there is internet access or Wireless Maritime Service on Explorer II. Happy as we Poopsters are to talk about penguins, icebergs, and rude Germans, we are unable to give you any dope on Explorer II. Cheers, Fred

Helen, you're on the departure prior to ICE, right?

Yes, Andrea. I wish I could have gone on ICE but it was just too many days. We are taking 2 nephews out of school to go, so really couldn't take that much time. One day I will cruise with you all.

YOu can send emails from the library and they are batched and sent out during the day. Then you can receive emails that i believe are delivered to your cabin. NO internet access.

Thanks, Ngaire. So you can't get emails on your lap top or Blackberry? I guess I just don't understand the technology sad
