We are looking forward to seeing all of you (Carol & Bing included) that weekend. All this and a quick sighting of Devil's Tower (think Close Encounters of the Third Kind mountain) and Mt. Rushmore.

If I had only brought my red cowgirl hat home from San Antonio...

Cheers, Anne

You betcha, Masaki!

I've completed leg one to Chicago. Gary gets here Thursday, then on Friday it's off to Miles City and the Bucking Horses. Jim - thanks for the e-mail. Got the information.

Cheers, Anne

We have Anne taken care of with a red cowgirl hat.
Just happen to have one from my brother in law days coaching at Louisville. :D
Gary I am a little worried about confused
He almost always seems to have a visor on.
Friday evening we will go downtown. Jan B and I belong to a private club, (Miles City Club is the oldest continuous social club in the state of Montana. 1884),( Teddy Roosevelt was a social member before his political days), and will take Anne & Gary there for awhile. We then will walk Main Street which is closed off and 3 to 4 bands will be playing on the street at different locations.
Saturday morning we will go to the parade at 9:30 am then goof around a little until we go to the Sale, (rodeo),around 12:30 pm. The reserved box seats we have are located in the very front row, and in the absolute middle of the fairgrounds grand stands. Only negative is we are out in the sun with no shade. Saturday night Bing and Carol Cherry will come over for a steak fry.

Man, you guys are going to have a romping good time! It really does sound like fun. Maybe next year for us as we plan more domestic travels. Credit card is experiencing a major blow-out this year. Will have to have it retreaded.

Cheers! Ray

Anne & Gary made it in fine shape.
After a cocktail hour, "ROAR" pictures,
ribs, we set out for the Friday night happenings.
Think we kept the East Coasters up a little late since it was midnight MDT when we got home.
Not much movement yet this morning at 7:00am.
Will collect pictures and post them later.

I must tell you .. this celebration is one of America's best-kept treasures. Jim and Jan B told us it was sold out months in advance and they were right. Thanks so very much to Jim and Jan B for fantastic hosting, Bing and Carol for joining in Saturday night's steak fry and United Airlines for keeping us on schedule. Jan B's dad was the star of the parade, flashing a friendly smile.

This time of year, the drive from Rapid City to Miles City is through gorgeous topography. Buttes with rosy-colored sandstone peeking out from the grass overgrowth topped by buff-colored rock. Rolling pastures with Black Angus cattle, sheep and lots of white-tailed deer (a LOT smaller than the pesky ones in NJ). My stepdaughter identified the top layer as the "Sundance" formation. Down here in Hulet, WY, the base layer is a much darker red, or Spearfish formation. That's the geology lesson for the day.

Something for everyone, and much of it going on at the same time. Human corrals for night-time dancing, carousing, mechanical bull riding for the adventurous, and otherwise carrying on!! Parades with more candy thrown for the little ones than a spectacular Halloween trick-or-treating evening! "Quick Draw" where local artists produce original art for auction in thirty short minutes! "Hog Roast" to raise money for the local fire company! and .. event to end all events .. The Bucking Horse Sales bronc riding, horse auction and parimutuel horse races throughout the afternoon. Jim and Jan B have an excellent wagering system. Each person bets on the same number horse for the entire day, depending on seat number in the box. I was rooting for #2 and Gary had #5. We did OK. Kevin was the big winner with #4, and Jan B also cleaned up on #1. Jim B is waiting for next year. Around 4:30 pm, the blood alcohol level seems to collectively kick in for the crowd. At that point, EVERYONE is making new friends. One group of kids from Kentucky made up T-Shirts for themselves proclaiming they were "Gettin' Lucky .. in Montucky". If you want to see all kinds of T-Shirt slogans, this is among the better locales. Several you have to see to believe. Another memorable one was "I didn't ask you to dance. I said YOU LOOK FAT IN THOSE PANTS"

Gary defended the "Princess" title with a ruby screwdriver complete with a maraschino cherry for the Breakfast of Champions sun-upper event. Montana barkeepers know how to deal with princesses of the male persuasion. I may adopt a few of those techniques at home.

Yesterday we walked the base of Devil's Tower in Wyoming. There were a few folks starting their descent when we were there. I would need a LOT more time in the gym to attempt that feat.

On to the Black Hills today sporting my brand-new "Miles City Bucking Horse Sales" t-shirt. Tomorrow afternoon it's back to the Garden State.

Editing to add: Jim B, nice job on the pictures! I added 20 more in the album next to it.

Cheers, Anne

Jim - we'll be with you in spirit that weekend! We've had more fun taking the Bucking Horse Sales to the masses as we've worn holes in those T-shirts on our travels. It always sparks conversation.

Gary's lining up the biscuits & gravy, ruby screwdriver fixin's AND the paper umbrellas for Saturday's Breakfast of Champions.

Give our best to Jan B, Bing, Carol & of course Jody!

Cheers, Anne

Actually that's a Bull. The local Smokey the Bear Rodeo. Made the Front Page of the Ruidoso News. Now we are going to dig up Billy the Kid and do DNA tests to make sure Pat Garret really shot him. Photos to come.

This is a very interesting place to live.
