Quote on Terra sportsline before the match:
Zinedine Zidane (France, captain) will end his soccer career in the World Cup final. And there's no more fitting way for him to go out.
Little did they know how prophetic they were. Out on a red card for blatant foul, and Italy wins on penalty kicks. As we say in the ballparks, "Yeeerrr OUT!!"

The drama continues ..
BERLIN, July 10 (Reuters) - France captain Zinedine Zidane won the FIFA Golden Ball award as the outstanding player of the World Cup despite being sent off in their final penalties shootout defeat by Italy on Sunday.
The prize was decided by media votes, cast before Zidane was shown the red card. Zidane received 2,012, Italian captain Fabio Cannavaro finished second (1,977) and his team mate Andrea Pirlo was third (715).
Brazil and Spain shared the fair play award.
Cheers, Anne

I didn't watch the game, but I saw the foul (over and over). At first I thought it was really horrible and petty (and it truly was), but I heard a bit on GMA this morning that put a different spin on it.
They had a lip reader read what the Italian said to him....in a nutshell, if you believe that the lip reader is accurate, he told him that he hoped his whole family died a horrible death!!!! To add to that, the French player's mom is very sick at the moment.
Again, who knows if this is really true, but it does give a bit of a different perspective to the situation. It still wouldn't excuse his actions...he should have waited until the game was finished to say something back....
