Does the Mariner have the interactive TV?

Ardis, I know there are people on here that have been on Mariner since I was on in February. But, in Feb. Mariner had not had the TVs installed yet. Just checked and below is copy and pasted from our trip journal of Jan. 12.
We asked the Hotel Director Richard Fenn about the status of the new TV systems since our TVs and reception/broadcast quality is so poor and unreliable. He said that it was scheduled for March 4 to 24, 2008. He said that he had scheduled a crew to come onboard to do it in Ft. Lauderdale and he was having half of the flat screen TVs and interactive equipment delivered on the 4th and the crew would stay on for the full 20 days. He would have the remainder of the TVs and equipment delivered on the return to Port Everglades on the 14th. So, he expected it all to be done during 2 10-day Caribbean cruises in March, after we depart.

Hopefully, you will get a reply from someone who has been on since March and can give you a more current and positive answer.

What is interactive TV? If we had it on our May 28 to June 4 Alaska cruise, no one told us about it. We did have flat screen TVs.

Interactive TVs permit you to book and view your ship excursions, look at your shipboard account and watch over 150 different movies. We enjoyed this on the Voyager last month.

The new flat panel TVs were installed during the "Build the New Ship" cruise in March, but they were still working on the software part. I would think they should have it operating by now.

Hi! I am new to this forum so this might not be the place for this question....but.....I am so excited to be on my first Regent cruise in January on the Mariner. I haven't been able to find any southern Caribbean reviews b/c it seems the Mariner does a lot of different places EXCEPT the Caribbean. I'm just trying to find out what the recommended shore excursions might be and how cruising Regent is different than my other cruises on Carnival and NCL. Any tips/comments/suggestions?

Hi Cruzndiz and welcome! There really hasn't been toooo many southern cruises so there have been fewer reviews for that area. There is a bunch of us going on a southern itinerary 2 months after you so I bet we will start discussing shore excursions in a few months, if that will help you at all.
Even though the southern route cruises are rarer than norm, I bet a lot of us have been to most of the ports you will be going to, do you have any specific island questions?

I've been to a number of the islands in the Caribbean already so one of the things that I had originally heard about RSSC is that since it's a smaller ship they visit more out of the way places that aren't serviced by the mega ships. The 2nd thing I heard was that their shore excursions were more exotic/interesting than offered by the mega ships. But so far, neither of those things has really been the case In any event, I know 3 or 4 of the islands have golf courses, but I didn't see one single golf outing listed as a shore excursion (are the cruisers on these ships not very active?) Also, almost every single island offers either snorkeling or a bus tour. Where are the catamaran party boat cruises? Where are the beach parties/bbq's?? I was so excited to be cruising on a ship with what I hoped would be more affluent, country club set, cruisers like us.....not to be snobbish or anything but after a while it does get a little tiresome cruising with the discount set....but although my hubby is in his 50s (I'm still in the 40s we are certainly still up for a little fun

We are just a little younger than you and your husband and we never have a problem finding excursions to mess up my hair, lol.

Some of the ones I have been thinking about doing I have found on Shore trips and include 4 wheeling, dune buggying and zip lining.

I would imagine that golf would be something that you could arrange easily with the travel concierge, probably get a foursome arranged. Since it's not really a group thing, is it? I can't imagine a golf excursion, a bus with 20 people!

We did a catamaran trip in St. Thomas to St. John that we loved, so I'm sure there must be some of those, but ours mostly involve snorkeling. I'm sure you can find canopy tours, off-road trips, etc. to keep the energy level up.

As for party boats, remember that the age demographic skews a bit older than yourself, you may have to go private for this kind of thing.

If the Mariner will not have interactive TV, does anyone know if there is a CD player for movies in the rooms?

When we were on board in March, the TV had been replaced with a new flat panel set and there was a DVD player. The ship has a library of DVDs.

Great. Last time we were on Mariner there were only video players.
