There's a big fire that broke out in the Hollywood Hills not far from the Hollywood Bowl! I sure hope none of our So. Cal LCTers are in this area!

Found some info: LOS ANGELES -- A brush fire is burning Tuesday afternoon in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood.
Several homes are near the fire in the Mount Olympus area. The fire is burning west of the Hollywood Bowl near Nichols Canyon Road, north of Franklin Avenue.
Smaller spot fires were breaking out near the blaze. About 25 acres have been consumed.
Heavy smoke was visible from the 101 Freeway.
NBC4 forecaster Fritz Coleman said light winds in the area were blowing at about 4 mph.
Two city fire aerial units are at the scene. Ground units are working on steep slopes.
About 150 firefighters were at the location.
"The fire guys are unbelievable," said resident Jim Katz. "They were here with their helicopters in about five minutes."
Residents told NBC4 the fire started near a high-tension power line support.
Hollywood Boulevard is closed at Nichols Canyon Road.

I am monitoring this - we don't have any known LCT'ers there. I do have a client who lives there - he can see the smoke and the flames- they are lapping at his backyard. I spoke to him when the first news bulletin hit my computer/email. Called him at the office to tell him to go home, but, he left work early today and was there when the fire started. I wanted to make sure his dog was not there alone. Will keep you all posted - please keep your fingers crossed for him.
Editing to add the fire is pretty much now out at 7:30 pm PST. No injuries and no homes damaged! Way to go LAFD!

Here in LA, we take such things in stride. Earthquakes, civil unrest, fires in the canyons, taggers spray painting monuments, politics in quagmire...
Its not the LA that I knew growing up, where men wore hats and suits, and ladies were...well, ladies. Its not the town of class and distinction that my parents joined one Spring day in 1946 after honorable discharge from the service...and our once proud public education system is humiliated by all of the demands being placed upon it by a population swelling with undocumented aliens...
In some ways, its actually a better place. There's no more "restricted" neighborhoods or clubs, no more "sunset laws" (where people of color or certain ethnicity had to be off the streets by sundown...I personally witnessed "sundown" as late as 1965 and restrictions as late as 1978). Its a place of infinite personal and career opportunity, and easy mobility from the desert to the sea.
So if the hills are burning, don't dispare...we'll put them out. And if the earth is moving, don't be brought down...we'll prop it up. And if the bad guys ever land on our soil...we'll send Arnold in to terminate them!
Cheers!
Eric
"Winston...you're drunk." "Madame, I may be drunk...but you dear lady are ugly. However, I'll be sober in the morning!"

Yes, Eric, I agree with you!
I am a 4th generation Angeleno. My family landed in California in 1902 and came to LA in April 1906 due to the San Francisco Earthquake. We've been here just under 100 years! For those of you who don't know, it's rare to find people born here before 1960. There was a air of sophisication and glamour that went by the wayside. My Mother went to Fairfax High School and I am a product of the LA Schools when they were ranked #1 nationally as was the whole infrastructure of this great state. I do remember not being allowed in the Los Angeles Country Club because of my ethnicity. And I heard many stories about apartment for rent signs that said No Children, No Pets, No Jews or Blacks.
Yes, we have things to mourn the loss of and things to celebrate.
