Last week I was asking about the Monterey bay area (many thanks to those who replied) and this week I've been offered a job there!! It's not perfect (what is?) but I absolutely loved the area. Lots of consideration going on. Wish me luck that I make the right decision :)

Laurie, wishing you luck! I went back to law school I guess about your age, and had to re-locate for 3 years. Difficult for my daughter at the time (middle school), but it taught her change, and adaptability. Never easy to move a family when there are children, but I wish you all the best! In the end, good for both of us!

Sounds exciting but fear of the unknown, Lauri, is difficult well it is for me - you'll make the right decision - look at Karen - small town PA and big city Houston!!!!

Lauri all the best in a making a huge decision!
Twenty years ago this month we moved from a town of 9,541 (yes I recall the population)in Wisconsin where all our family lived to Columbus, Georgia where we knew not a soul.
Tom was offered a new job and we were ready for a change. Our children were 10 and 8 at the time and it was a huge culture shock move to a city well over 200,000 and in the South (where our accents were made fun of on a daily basis). :p
Do we regret it - NOT FOR ONE MINUTE...we love it here and would never leave. :)
Go with what your heart tells you and never look back!

Hooah Lauri! You will love the Monterey bay area (monterey bay acquarium, carmel (Clint Eastwood was once Mayor), 17 mile drive (the lovely Cypress trees), pebble beach, cannery row, half moon bay, santa cruz (try Marianne's Ice Cream) and the Santa Cruz boardwalk (kids heaven)) and if you're a surfer--steamers lane in santa cruz...I bet soon your family will become 49r fans and soon refer to that Dallas team as the cowgirls! r/wes

Good luck with your decision, Lauri. In my former life, we were transferred 5 or 6 times. I gained friends and much more from everywhere we lived. And, in my new life with Alan, I relocated from the green mountains of Virginia to the dramatic desert of Tucson. I've never had so much fun.

Lauri, what a wonderful time in your life.....I moved from up north to the south when my kids were 7 and 4 and I never looked back. I left all my family and roots and started a new life here and it has been great. Good luck, I know you will make the right choice for your family.

How exciting for you Lauri. I moved to Ca 30 years ago by myself on a whim. I always knew I could go back to NY if I wanted to, so why not give it a try? Best thing I ever did. ---------------- Helen

Congratulations on the job offer, Lauri, and I know you will make the right decision for yourself. Hey, if you move to CA, we will have swapped states. We just left CA in March.
Keep us posted regarding your decision! :)
