I wanted the folks in the Atlanta area to know Tom and I are thinking about you (Kathy, Wes and whoever else is up that way). The flooding that we see on TV looks bad and there have been several deaths and many people have been evacuated from their homes.

We've gotten some rain in Pine Mt., but nothing like what has come down just an hour north of us (over 15 inches in some areas in less than 24 hrs). My thoughts/prayers are with those who are being displaced and have damage to their homes.

Sue, Beth; Thanks for your thoughts/prayers...we just got back from 10 days in Italy; thus, we have missed the consistent rain over the past week. Here is a ATL newstory
on the rain (seven deaths so far):

http://www.ajc.com/news/all-state-highways-over-143503.html

Woodstock, Tucker (suburbs in metro ATL, hit hard) Our ATL Red cross has set up a shelter in Cobb County (had a voice message on my return late last night asking to help man the RC shelter)so many folks have been affected by rains, subsequent floods. So far, here in south metro
Atlanta, we have not been adversely affected.

Glad you and Ida are ok through all this, Wes. Just heard from my niece in Roswell. Her floor and carpets are wet, so no telling what kind of damage she will have from that. We keep praying. My brother and SIL in Marietta is fine.

Just checking in; haven't been on LCT since yesterday afternoon.

Watching the news last night was a shock; have never seen anything that bad here!

We're fine, on high ground, but did have some small quantity of water in basement. I guess nothing is impervious to those quantities in a short amount of time.

We're about 2 miles north of Lenox Square but I haven't been out to see any problems.

Thanks for thinking of us!

Thanks for checking in...Wes I was not sure when you and Ida were getting back from your hiking trip.

Kathy so glad you are safe and dry for the most part.

Beth; thanks for letting us know how your family is doing. It looks like the rains may be over with, but the hard part is yet to come for so many that have much devastation.

Seeing the fatalities and home devastations is heart-wrenching! I wouldn't know where to start, especially if you don't have flood insurance! (We don't, as DH always said, if we flooded, the whole city would be under water!)

Kathy we watch Atlanta channel 2 news and what they are showing each day is just awful and so sad. It sure would be nice if a homeowners policy included flood damage wouldn't it!

Some of the coverage is just too painful to watch, I am hoping for better weather for the area.

Pray we get through the weekend rain without much further damage (flooding and trees falling from the soaked ground,) and next week looks dry and cooler! Hope they're right!

Our local main road north has been closed for 3 days for bridge inspection/repars? Small bridge over small creek at that point; annoyance just requiring extra time but who knows if they're doing anything? (Not much confidence in local co. gov't.)

Kudos Col. Wes!, for your continued service, with the Red Cross on this occasion.

Sue, I gave up on Channel 2 several years ago as Monica is SO dramatic and the weather people (especially Glenn Burns, are such alarmists!) I watch CH 11.

The humidity all week has really affected me; hope they're correct about drier air!!

My sister and her family live in Acworth. They have a walkout basement which her husband had finished off, himself. 4 feet of water invaded their gorgeous media room and his workshop. They lost all of their children's school memorabilia. Pam says that she cleans for a while, then cries, then cleans some more. Since we're in Japan, I haven't really seen any photos or talked to my mom. Maybe tomorrow.

Glad to hear that Another Kathy and Wes are fine.

Donna,

So sorry to hear your sister's plight! Can't imagine what they're going through and it's just as well you haven't been able to see pix.

The good news is the latest rain is over and the week ahead looks to be totally dry and cooler! Let's just hope everything can dry out and people can start to recover!!
