Anyone besides me looking forward to the new season of Survivor tonight? :hyper:

Twenty Americans are stranded in Palau, the South Pacific paradise some call the 8th natural wonder of the world, where colorful wildlife, dense jungles and an underwater world beyond belief are haunted by the wreckage and remnants of World War II. From the beginning, the game will be changed in a dramatic way: everything the Survivors have come to expect will be wiped out in the first 10 minutes. Who will outwit, outplay, and outlast all others in Palau? Get to know the new Survivors now, and don't miss a single episode of SURVIVOR: PALAU, premiering Thursday, February 17 at 8 pm ET/PT, only on CBS.

Are you kidding? I LIVE for Survivor! My whole family knows that during Survivor season, do NOT even consider bothering Mom between 8 & 9 pm on Thursdays. ;)

This time we even have a local in the show -- a Ventura County native (can't remember his name -- I guess I'll find out tonight!)

My God, Karen, where did you find that picture? Have you ever seen so much perfect bare flesh? Sheesh? Who ARE those guys?? I'm getting the vapors!

LeeAnne, I found the picture on the CBS survivor website. And yes, there are a couple of cute ones this season!!

Suzie, I really think I am a reality junky! There is a winter storm warning for our area tonight and I was worried that the power would go out :)

The first 10 minutes is awesome! I love it when they make them wear the clothes on their back all season :)

I won't say anything about tonights episode that will give it away for our West Coast friends.

But, I take back my earlier statement about how I like them to have to wear the clothes on their back. Some of them ended up only wearing their undies...ew!!

Also, the grey haired guy, I think his name is Tom, is NOT hard on the eyes!!

I also loved a few of the twists. It made for a very interesting episode.

Thanks for not posting any spoilers! I'd forgotten the time difference, so I popped in here not realize that if someone had already seen it, there could be stuff in here I wish I hadn't read.

Can't wait!

Okay, Robert you got me all excited thinking Johnathan was going to be somebody really special, and then.....BOOM! He gets dumped immediately! Ya gotta feel sorry for the guy. Especially since he was so darn cute. :(

Now TOM...obviously Karen, you and I have similar tastes in men. My heart is going pitty-patty all over the place! I hope he lasts for a while. Y'know, he reminds me of Hunter from an earlier season, who unfortunately didn't last very long at all. I hope it's not a trend to quickly dump the hunky slightly older dudes!

Oh, the guy from Ventura is Jeff, who is quite hunky himself, even though he's very YOUNG.

Which brings up a comment. CBS must have been getting some feedback about a general deterioration in the overall eye-candy-ness of the last couple of Survivor seasons, because this one is chock FULL of seriously hot bods. I wasn't a bit surprised that Wanda, the strange old gal who reminded me of the "it's not NICE to fool MOTHER NATURE!" lady, got sent home quickly. She clearly didn't fit in. And frankly, her constant bizarre singing was obviously going to get old FAST.

But there does seem to be a dearth of people of a "certain age", doncha think? I mean really, the vast majority of these folks are clearly young bucks. Where are the interesting older folks?? We need them to add an infusion of basic common sense among all the raging hormone-infected thinking that seems to go on among the under-30 crowd on there.

(Okay, an admission here: it's my dream to be on Survivor! Not that I would ever apply...but all my friends insist that I'd get picked, being a 45-year-old marathon runner and all that...so I can't help but constantly judge the show based on what I'd do in any given situation...but please don't tell anyone that!!!)

I forgot to mention that I thought Palau was stunning!!

As for Tom, I swear he is the guy in that commercial where he walks around a swimming pool while all the girls are staring at him. I think it is a high cholesteral commercial, maybe.

LOL! Y'know, I actually considered it once...for about a nano-second. ;) Think I want to look like a complete and utter moron in front of 20 million viewers? Lord KNOWS what I might do when faced with starvation and bug-eating. Trust me, it would NOT be pretty.

Another Survivor junkie here!
Agree Tom, the fireman, is very easy on the eyes.
Robert, I think you're salivating. He's probably taken already.

As soon as she started sing in the boat I knew her screentime was going to be short...how weird was that?

Ohhhh..kay you guys, step AWAY from the fireman! He's MINE! ALL MINE! AHAHAHA! <----maniacal laugh

Sheesh, see what Survivor does to me? What's even worse is when it's over, and I slip into PSD - Post Survivor Depression. There's just no living with me then.

I couldn't comment on Survivor until this morning as it only aired here last night. I'll have to make a point of not reading this thread until after I've seen each episode.

Being married to a fireman for nearly 40 years, the Suvivor fireman obviously didn't have the same impact on me (once bitten, twice shy - is that a saying you use?). Which one is he?

I was so glad to see the singing lady go! I don't usually make negative comments about anyone, but I will make an exception this time. She made an absolute idiot of herself.

I have never been fit enough to entertain the thought of even trying out for this show (not that I would want to as I like my little luxuries such as food, bed, shower, shampoo etc too much) but LeeAnne if you think you would like to try out for it, why not go for it? Don't die wondering! You have a fan club here ready to cheer you on!!

LOL! Believe me, part of me would love to do it. But the other part of me remembers what total idiots some seemingly normal people have made of themselves in front of millions of viewers, and then I run screaming from the part of me that wants to do it!

I love to analyze everyone's behavior on the show, and make fun of the dumb things they do, and I do lots of armchair quarterbacking. Sometimes it seems so obvious from this perspective -- I find myself shaking my head all the time and wondering, why on EARTH did she do that?? For example, what was Jolanda THINKING by being all bossy like that? Doesn't she know that's the kiss of death? But then, I realize I can't possibly know what it's really like there, and what the harsh conditions can make you do, especially in the face of wracking hunger and stinky smelly obnoxious castmates.

One thing I read once, I think Jeff Probst said it, is that no matter how hard contestants try to play the game and be on their best behavior, their basic natures always come out. I can be a pretty strong personality, and tend to be a take-charge kind of person, which can be seriously career-limiting traits on Survivor. Even though I'd know that I'd have to temper those tendencies if I wanted to survive, would I be able to? Would my basic nature come out anyway? What if I was the first one voted off? How could I LIVE with myself? ;)

So I'll just keep watching from afar, and critiquing and ridiculing those brave souls who don't actually mind making complete a**'s of themselves on international television. :D

Hi LeeAnne

There seem to be enough reasons for 'why not' - how many have you got for 'why you should'? Which option wins?

I think Jolanda thought she was showing her leadership qualities and how strong she was but it backfired!

Having just read again some of the things survivor contestants face, how crazy do you have to be to be on the show?

Crazier than I am, that's for sure!
:3smile:
Reasons for "why I should":

1. I could win a million bucks
2. A million bucks would buy a LOT of luxury cruises.
3. I might end up with a castmate who looks like the fireman! (Oh wait...that's a reason NOT to do it...) <img border="0" alt="[naughty]" title="" src="graemlins/naughty.gif" />

Did you know that out of an 80 hour normal pay period Fireman work 120 hours a 2 week pay period, including sleeping time away from home "not including overtime," with an average fireman in the U.S. making about $45,000 a year (and thats probably on the high side/the average hourly rate is between $6-$7.00 an hour, and Fireman have the highest divorce rate in the U.S. next to air traffic contollers. Just some info I thought you ladies and gentlemen would like to know. sorry

*NOTE* Please do not take the above facts as though I am bashing Firefighters, I personally respect them for the job that they do. My grandfather is a retired Chicago fireman/paramedic and my best friend is a fireman in orlando florida. I just think that the above facts are kind of funny and sad. :) :(

Didn't really sound like a bash to me, Darbie. I think it's kind of sad that's all the money they make for doing what they do. Guess there's a lot of professions that demand much and pay little.

To continue on with the original subject, SURVIVOR PALAU, I thought sending the first two home in that mannor was kind of crummy, picking people to stay or leave, should have had them compete somehow. Darcie

Last nights episode was pretty good, I thought. The scenery is just beautiful and makes for great viewing!

I agree with who they booted off, she seemed to not want to be there at all.

After I saw that cave last night, I can't imagine why they didn't set up camp there!
