It is about time to drag out the luggage. For domestic flights it is 50 lbs. per bag and each person is allowed 2 right? We have always gone on cruises with each of us taking one 29" piece. Those must weigh over 50 lbs. It is much easier than pulling 2 smaller bags and total weight wouldn't be any more.

Bette, it depends on airlines but 50lbs is a safe bet. You can easily get over 50lbs in a 29" bag. However, if we don't over pack ours, it comes in somewhere between 50-55lbs. We are thinking of getting a new 26" bag for Africa just to try to stay within their 44lb requirement.

Is each person allowed to have 2 bags at 50 lbs. each bag? We won't take that much of course but I was just wondering. It probably ends up being a heavier load the new way. We are flying Delta.

When we went to Africa we went on an A&K trip called Wings Over Botswana. We flew around in small planes. We were only allowed 22pounds each.

For our upcoming trip to Ft. Lauderdale (for SA) we can check 2 bags each, 70 lbs PER BAG. This is because our ticket was booked/paid for before October 1st when the new weight restriction went into effect on AA.

Yes Bette, you can each have two 50lb bags and a carry on and personal item (such as a purse or a laptop carrier) each.

We use a 26" suitcase and a duffle type bag per person. Since there is very little weight to the duffle you can put the heavy things like shoes in it. Sure makes more room for lighter things in the suitcase. We also do a smaller duffle type bag as carry on.

I am looking at buying new 26" bags to replace our 29" bags. The 26's come in fully packed at 50-ish and the 29's always seem to teeter on 70.
I found a bag specific for shoes somewhere - I should send it to Karen. Hold's 12 pair.

Kathy, a shoe bag sounds cool! My shoes end up smashed in a regular suitcase.

Delta is two 50lb bags per person. One carry on technically no more than 40lb (though I have never seen one weighed) and one personal item which can be as large as a large computer bag.

Karen, I thought I saw one that held 12 pair and closed like a suitcase. I thought of you immediately when I saw it. I spent a long time on Google looking for it and I only came up with those two. Will keep searching. The 6 pair thing would probably work for me though. When you have w-i-d-e feet you are a lot more limited to what kind of shoes to buy :mecry:
