I read an article concerning the use of credit cards while overseas. Several companies charge an extra percentage on purchases, some do not give the 'wholesale' exchange rate, and some tack on extras. Does anyone know a web site which can be used for comparisons ?

We just received our american express bill from our trip to asia and there we no extra charges for overseas purchases. In September we had an extra charge on everything we charged in Europe.

Thanks, Karen. We will use Capital One.
We are leaving for our May 25th. cruise on SS Wind. I will send you a list of ships in our ports. I also have a good webcam site in Corfu. Since we are there for a full day we will probably have dinner at the superb restaurant which contains the cam. I will post under "stalking" in a couple of weeks.

i believe the ones that get the surcharge tacked on are the merchants. They usually have to pay the exchange for their business.

I know what you did last Winter

Very interesting, Karen. Thanks for locating that chart. Unfortunately, our last trip overseas we used our Citibank card more than usual and got hit with that 3%. It was an unpleasant surprise on our next bill!

I just got my bill from Visa (BOA) that credited the 3% to the bank for our bill in Bahamas! Didn't like that. Before, however, I don't know who got the surcharge. Perhaps it was buried in the vendor charges. This charge, at least on my card, goes to BOA, not the vendor.
