After having a Bellini at Harry's Bar while on VOF and having a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in Raffles during our recent visit to Singapore, we are wondering where to next. Are there other famous drink/location pairs that should be on our "to do" list?
BTW, Key West is recovering well from Wilma. Some places are still closed but, for the most part, the island is open for business.

Marc, the Pina Colada was invented at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan. Don't I remember you reserving that hotel for a future cruise?

It may have; I have stayed away from them so far. It is about time to head down for sunset again; I will have to try one.
edited to add:
Googling seems to indicate that the Rum Runner may have been invented at the Tiki Bar in Islamarada.

I love Rum Runners! It's been so long since I had one, and my favorite place to drink them is in Islamorada (but at Marker 88 Restaurant)!

I didn't know that Pina Colada's were invented at the Caribe....Marc, you are in for a treat. They are WONDERFUL there. I enjoyed quite a few during my two stays.
Marc, make sure you request a room in the renovated building and ask for a water view. Some of the rooms are just ok, while others are lovely.

We had fresh banana daiquiris at a bar in Bluebeard's Castle in the Virgin Islands back in 1969 (yikes!). I think it may have originated there. All I remember is that they were the best!

My favorite: Cuban Mojitos. Probably invented in the Bodeguita del Medio in Havana ( one of the many bars Hemingway enjoyed in Cuba!). The recipe: 2 oz Cuban white rum or Bacardi 1/2 llime, quartered 1-2 tsp superfine sugar 3 oz club soda 3 sprigs fresh peppermint or spearmint a few pieces smashed ice (not crushed) 1 Squeeze lime into a highball glass, then muddle (bruise) lime wedges, sugar and 2 sprigs of mint with a muddler, or wooden pestle or spoon. 2 Stir well and add rum, preferably Havana Club or, failing that, Bacardi. 3 Add ice, club soda and stir. 4 Garnish with fresh mint
Let's drink to the possibility of enjoying one of these in a Free Cuba soon!

I found this website by trying to find the origins of some cocktails: www.drinksmixer.com I think the Mai Tai was originated from Trader Vic's in Beverly Hills

Kathy, you are right; Mai Tai was created at Trader Vic's. We need to stop in next time we are there.

Origin of the Bloody Mary:
Never has there been a cocktail with so much versatility, claims to fame and fun as the Bloody Mary!
This drink hails from Harry's New York Bar in Paris, and was first mixed by "Pete" Petoit. When Pete came back to New York City in the 1930's, he introduced the Red Snapper as America's first Bloody Mary. It was made with Gin, as Vodka was just emerging as a new spirit to American palates. The name may be attributed to Mary Tudor, the daughter of Henry VIII, who was declared illegitimate when Henry divorced her mother in 1532 to marry Anne Boleyn. She had a brief five year tenure as Queen and managed to kill off most of her Protestant adversaries. She was known as "Bloody Mary".

Just received email from friends in Boston..they came up with this drink for Thanksgiving.. so the Thankatini from Boston..
"The Thankatini recipe was in the blender: vodka, grand manier (sp?), a little sugar, POM pomagranite/blueberry juice with pureed fruit (cantalope, honeydew, apples, pineapple, strawberries) Yum....just made it up because we had a plethora of fruit and had to do something with it. Made us very thankful.."

Andi, of course, I could never forget those wonderful pie-tinis and cake-tails. We sing their praise to all whom we meet.
