 Has anyone used Travelex to get foreign currency prior to travel?

I've found that the Travelex office at DFW will provide you with foreign currency before you board your flight. I'm not sure what their exchange rates are but I do know that AAA members get a discounted comission. I'm wondering if it is worth getting some Japanese Yen and then not having to deal with a foreign ATM in my jetlagged condition.

I used our bank to get yen. I called them and then picked it up at our branch. They charged about 2%, which seems hi, but it was very convenient.

Perhaps Marc will chime in here - but many years ago - it was very difficult to get cash from a Japanese ATM using a US ATM card (something about them not being compatible) - maybe this has changed. So it may not be a bad idea for you to get some yen before you leave.

I think the ATM situation has improved in Japan, but I think I may get some yen pocket money just in case.

I had no trouble getting yen at the ATM in the airport and at a bank near my hotel in Tokyo two years ago.

Yes, I don't know why you wouldn't just go with an airport ATM after you land. We do that in every city. Even in China, the ATMs work!
