Thanks Chip.
Wonderful pictures.
The one where the smoke stacks show.
Is that at Green Valley?

Sam Manuel is north of Tucson on the other side of the Catalina's. Big copper mine that went bust there so they are planning to make it a resort. Same weather as Phoenix so it's really hot in the summer.

Chip,
So that's where you've been, hanging out in the desert taking pictures. Beautiful photos, you are a talented photographer.

Thanks for sharing these. Of course my favorite was the one of your puppy - doing her job of course!

chip - as always, gorgeous. Love the clouds in the photos! Curious - the one that was labeled "don't touch these" - what kind of tree is that? (sorry, desert novice that I am)

Wondered where you were. Pictures are beautiful and desolate...makes me want to jump on a horse and roam....er, maybe a jeep would work better at my age. ;)

That's a Jumping Cholla. I think I have the name right. If you brush up against it, it leaves the little fruit with lots of needles sticking in you, takes painful hours to get them all out. If you were on a horse you have to be careful.

To see more of the roads less traveled click on this and turn the slide show on.

Next, retrace the old Route 66 Highway from Chicago to Flagstaff.

And so different. Kind of reminds me of the terrain in the Sierra Nevadas up in Northern California.

I really enjoyed the slideshow, Chip. I think my favorites were the first few with those beautiful skies, did you "fix" them to have such clarity and depth in those clouds? Other favorites were the "monsoon" shot, of course your dog, "where the help lives" and #39. Thanks for sharing!

I just run it through the Adobe Editor's quickfix and sharpen it a little before I resize it. It took a lot of playing around to get it to look sharp on the internet but have the file size small enough so it would load quickly.

Being close to home I can watch the weather and chose when I'm going where. You can't always do that on a cruise. It's the luck of the draw. I've learned so much from all the good photographers on this board. Some of the techniques used in bad weather are really useful to me. I am looking forward to Party and the Panama Canal and have my fingers crossed for good light.

I get a kick out of that shot. Taxi every night and if you miss that you can catch it Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Maybe someday Willcox will get cable.
