Just got a very cute new toy - an Asus eeepc 1005 HA. It is a netbook with a 10 inch screen, 160gb HD. Perfect for emails, surfing the net while away from home. Weighs under 3 lbs. I can use it to download my pictures. I also got a usb powered DVD drive so Bert and I can watch movies while flying. The battery lasts an incredible amount of time so I should be all set for the Baltic portion of Sea to Sea. Boys and their toys...

Hey Mitch, don't leave us gurls out! I'm looking at the netbooks, too. My school system is supporting the Lenovo ideapad with a 6 hour battery. As my desktop is old and decrepit, I am thinking about using my laptop for home use and getting a netbook for running around. Keep us posted on how you like it.

Glad to hear you and Bert are getting ready for Sea 2 Sea! I love my EeePC it is so great for travel. I hadn't thought about watching movies on the plane though... great idea! Can't wait to see you both.

Can't wait to see you either, Arlene! Beth, I did my usual due diligence before this purchase. I think the battery life on this model is listed at 10.5 hours though those numbers never bear much relation to reality. I have also heard that Lenovo service is sometimes a problem.

Thanks, Mitch. I usually do copious amounts of research prior to buying electronics, too. Appreciate your input on the Lenovo.

I bought the Dell 10" netbook a couple weeks ago. I take it to work and use it on "down time" in the ER (between 3 & 5 a.m.).I also wanted it for travel because it weighs only 2 1/2 lbs. Fits in the bag. I like the Dell because thee keyboard is almost full size. Haven't used it on battery yet. Oh, they have them at Wal-Mart for $298! $349 on sale at Best Buy.

I was "this close" to getting a netbook for my Galapagos/Peru trip. I decided instead to drag along the old laptop one more time and spend my money on alpaca goodies. Maybe sometime...

Congrats on the new toy, let us know how you like it!

Today's Woot looks like a good deal but I am sure if this is a decent one? I want to get one for Mark to check his email and other basic functions.

Woot deal of the day

And here is a previous woot of the day that is still available at a much cheaper price, which makes me a bit wary? It also doesn't have a webcam, so I couldn't communicate with it when I am out of the US with my cell phone.

Asus woot

Also, the BEST place for extended warranties is Squaretrade, if you want to extend your warranty. Great warranties at a bargain price with excellent customer service. There is a quote option to see how much it would be.

So far, I am very happy with my Asus 1005HA. It has a webcam, bluetooth, wireless a/g/n and a newer, supposedly faster Atom n280 processor. The screen has great resolution and for basic email, documents, etc. it appears to work great. It will be a pleasure not lugging my old heavy laptop on vacation.

I've been considering that $298 one at Walmart since I have a Dell desktop.
Actually that should cause me to go with another brand. This desktop hasn't been that reliable. Need to call India for the umpteenth time. A drive has died.
