My father and I are headed to Peru at the end of August and we welcome your thoughts, suggestions, warnings, recommendations, "don't miss," "don't waste your time," etc., etc.

This is a "pilgrimage" trip for Dad in his 80th year (he will actually celebrate his birthday in Malaga on the Voyager crossing!). Checking off another of his "must see" sights/experiences.

Our itinerary devleoped with Susan Walsh and booked via Ker & Downey is:

Aug 30 -- Sacred Valley (2 nights at Casa Andina)
Sept 1 -- Train to Machu Picchu (2 nights at MP Sanctuary Lodge)
Sept 3 -- MP, then afternoon train to Cuzco (3 nights at Hotel Monasterio)
Sept 6 -- back to Dallas

The plans have been in place for months (thanks again, Susan), but now it's time for logistics like weather, clothing, luggage limits, insect repellant, etc.

Thanks in advance.

If your Dad is 80 you'd better get an oxygen supplemented room at the Monasterio in Cuzco. Cuzco is at 11K', whereas Machu Picchu is only 9K'. You'll both have trouble breathing in Cuzco and you won't sleep very well. Just things to consider.

Thanks. Yes, one reason we picked the Monasterio was the availability of the extra oxygen. The thin air of Cuzco is why we decided to make that our final, rather than early stop.

I picked up our trip documents (and two Ker & Downey small duffle bags!) from Susan Walsh on Friday. Counting down the days with growing anticipation.

Luke - this has definitely been your year for male bonding with family members. You will be going to a place I would love to visit - someday. Take pictures! And tell your dad hello from me.
