Might be useful. Anyone have any experience with these companies?

National Geographic "best of" adventure tour companies

Ker & Downey shows up on the second "overall" page. They have sure done a great job for us, especially on our Egypt sojourn.

Cheers, Anne

Great resource - thanks for posting. I hope they keep it on the site.

I am familiar with a lot of these companies from my TA days since our agency did a lot of adventure travel.

Brad & I have taken trips with:

Wilderness Travel - hiking Tasmania ('04)
Ker & Downey - South Africa/Namibia ('06)
Country Walkers - hiking Canadian Rockies ('98), Puglia (booked for '08)
Butterfield & Robinson - Patagonia ('01), Peru ('05), China & Tibet ('07)
Costa Rica Expeditions - custom Costa Rica trip('03)

I know people who have taken trips with:

Geographic Expeditions
Asia Transpacific
A&K
Mountain Travel Sobek
Linblad
National Habitat Adventures
Austin Lehman Adventures
Cross Country International
Zegrahm
Canadian Mountain Holidays
Backroads
Wilderness Safaris
Micato
Absolute Travel
National Geographic Expeditions
CC Africa

In addition I get catalogs/email from some of the above and some additional ones.

Jackie - we must have just missed each other in Tasmania - we were also on a WT trip in '04 (February). I assume your guide was James Fuss? Lots of fun!

Leslie, yes, yes, it was James & his brother. They are both excellent cooks. They made great beach cookouts & we ate at marvelous restaurants. We were with them In Oct or Nov. after the Singappore - Sydeny crauise.
