I am wondering about the CarryOn baggage limitations on Air Tahiti Nui, and posted my question on FlyerTalk. I received no response. Since many people here have flown ATN, maybe someone here can answer:
Not clear about what we can carry on. Our first leg of flying will be on AA, and they are pretty clear on sizes of not only the Carry on Bag, but the Additional "Personal Item" which is allowed.
Flying Biz Class. We will each have 1 standard 21" or 22" wheeled carryon bag. No problem there.
But we will also have 2 backpacks - one a regular "book pack" sized backpack, and the other a Camera bag, holding an SLR camera and a few lenses. I saw on the ATN site that I can bring the wheelie plus a Personal Item but I didn't see an explanation of Size. It does say "small camera case" as well as a laptop case or briefcase. But it really does not define what "small " is. Additionally, Arlene will be carrying her handbag, and another SLR camera in a case that only holds the camera. That camera could fit in her backpack normally, but since we'll be away 2 weeks, that backpack is going to be filled with art supplies that she is reluctant to check (Nothing flammable or solvents) so the camera will be carried on her/my shoulder.
So in summary - I'll be wheeling a carryon, wearing a camera bag on my back, and carrying a very small camera bag on my shoulder. She'll be wheeling a CarryOn, have a backpack & a handbag. (I'll have my computer in one of the wheelies that we carry on.)
We each will also have a large suitcase that will be checked.
Because the backpacks will contain things that cannot be checked, if we have to check something through, it will be the WheelOn's. BUT they are going to contain things like Meds, Toiletries,a couple of days' worth of clothes & other essentials. IF I have to check one, how is ATN on luggage getting lost? I suppose the problem is that I will be checking the luggage at LAX & thus dependent on LAX ground crew to get the luggage to my flight.
(Cannot believe we are packing so much to go to Tahiti! But it is 12 days total, and lots of cameras & electronc stuff like chargers.)
